Firefly 6 – Changes for teachers

Your school will soon be upgrading to Firefly 6.Find out more about how you can prepare and what changes to expect.

What do I need to do?

The Firefly Project Lead in your schools will tell you when the upgrade will happen.

We’ve made the upgrade process as seamless as possible, so all ofthe pages you’ve created and the tasks you’ve set your students will remain unchanged – just accessed in a slightly different way. There will be no interruption in the way you use Firefly.

If you’re using the Teacher Planner app, we recommend connecting your device to the Internet before your school activates Firefly 6. This will ensure that all the work on your device is properly uploaded and synced.

What’s changing?

Clearer navigation

We’ve completely redesigned the menus you use to navigate the site. All of your great content is still there, but the menus are much clearer, with the things you want to do more readily to hand. The navigation of the website and the app are now the same so if you're familiar with one of them, then you already know how to use the other. You can easily find out when your next lesson is, or check up on tasks that are due soon with a quick glance.

Richer, more complex tasks

While it's still just a few clicks to set a task, you can now also add files or links and write descriptions without any character limits. On the web, you can even add rich resources to your task description, such as images, galleries, videos, and questions.

More interactive tasks

Tasks are now built with feedback in mind. You can send comments or files to students to help them improve their work. On the iOS app, you'll be able to annotate PDFs without leaving the app giving you a seamless marking and grading workflow. Students are able to leave comments or even submit their work multiple times. You can see the full response history of a task at any given time, allowing you to easily keep track of students' progress and demonstrate the evidence of your feedback.

Smart lesson plans

The app knows your timetable and creates slots where you can add lesson plans. Lesson plans can be created ahead of time and reused, allowing you to plan your work more efficiently. We'll be bringing this functionality to the web version of Firefly in a future release.

Projection mode

We’veadded a brand new projection mode, allowing you to easily show your content to a class. With just a simple click, your content "pops out" and all menus are temporarily hidden away.

New and improved app

We’ve completely redesigned the teacher app, so it's packed full of features and more beautiful than ever.

Thenew Firefly for Teachers app will be available the week before Firefly 6 is activated, so you’re welcome to download and install it then – you can continue to use the current app until Firefly 6 activation takes place. The way you log into the app won't be changing, so if you need a reminder of your school code, you can easily find it in your Firefly account settings (via the web).

The app will be free to download and available for iOS (iPad).
