Welcome to a new school year! We are starting to settle in to our new rooms and all of the new staff and students are enjoying St. Michael. I hope all have had an enjoyable and restful summer.

We are looking forward to all of the new plans that this year will present. Our strong educational programs, school activities and ongoing faith development will help us develop our school community. I encourage all parents and families to be involved and join us with our school’s activities. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you this year!

AGENDA BOOKS

Take a look at your child’s agenda book. You will see in the front of the book a scheduleof the school year. This includes holidays, interviews, and staff meetings: everything you need to know for the whole year. You can put this on your fridge for easy reference. We also put this information in our monthly newsletters.

ALLERGY ALERT

We have students in our school who have severe allergic reactions to various foods. The more common foods that cause these severe reactions are nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, sunflower, sesame seeds and oils derived from them.

There are some misconceptions that need to be addressed. These allergies are not just an inconvenience to the student. Reactions can be fatal within minutes if treatment is not given in a timely fashion. A child does not have to eat or touch a substance to have a reaction. Something as simple as touching a table or doorknob after a student who has been eating a peanut butter sandwich has touched it, can trigger an allergic reaction because of oil left behind.

It is extremely difficult to say that we are now going to have a “nut free or allergy free environment” as this can lead to a false sense of security. We are asking you to help us strive to be as nut and peanut free as is humanly possible. This means refraining from sending snacks or lunches that contain these allergens, or any oils or extracts from these foods. We would never knowingly put any of our own families at risk. We are asking you to extend this level of care to our school family. Thank you for your understanding and assistance in this matter.

SCHOOL FEES

School fees are coming in fast and furious. Thank you! It would be nice to have all fees collected by the end of September. If paying the fees all at once will be a burden, please contact the school 693-7693 and we will work out a payment schedule that will work for you.

BUS LANE / SCHOOL DROP OFF AND PICK UP

Safety of our students is, of course, always front and centre in our minds.

PLEASE– do not drive into / or walk through this lane to pick up or drop off students. We did put a gate west of the bus lane to allow access to the playground.

ALSO – We ask that you pick up your children on Albert Street . This keeps traffic to a minimum so our Safety Patrollers and students walking are more visible.
