The Finance Department, is seeking to appoint a qualified accountant with experience of working with finance systems and experience of finance system implementations. The role will support the Group Financial Controller in ensuring the new Finance Solution is optimised and serves the business of the Group in the most effective way possible.

This position is based at Treforest Campus of the University of South Wales.

The terms and conditions of the post (including grade and salary) will be those of the University of South Wales.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Finance Systems Accountant
Type of Contract: Fixed Term- two years
Grade: G
Responsible to: Group Financial Controller
Responsible for: 2 x Finance System Officers
Main Purpose of the Job:
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Group Financial Controller in ensuring the new Finance Solution serves the business of the Group in the most effective way possible.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1.  To plan, manage and deliver the new Finance System functionality ensuring that business needs of users are satisfactorily met.
2.  Plan, manage and deliver a programme of optimisation work plans, system upgrades and additional module implementation.
3.  To adjust and amend the programme for testing and deployment of the latest system upgrade. To manage the test programme and ensure system changes are implemented.
4.  To work with process owners to review and update workflows and processes to ensure efficient and effective transaction processing.
5.  Liaise with business users on process improvements and ensure appropriate communication of actions and results.
6.  To review reporting requirements across the group in-line with business needs.
7.  To organise training for users and develop reports as necessary
8.  To manage the Finance System Officers ensuring that the administration of the system is effectively managed.
9.  To manage support requests from Business Users.
10.  In respect of all system development areas, to liaise with Technology One to ensure that developments are properly specified and that the appropriate and agreed implementation methodology is being strictly adhered to.
11.  Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the line manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Essential / Desirable
·  A sound understanding of accounting processes and procedures and related financial systems.
·  Practical experience of accounting and financial system workflows and the challenges these can present to practical day to day operation.
·  An ability to challenge, sense check and support business users and an ability to translate finance department and finance user requirements into the finance system and process solutions around the system.
·  An ability to present to, communicate, negotiate and challenge a broad range of stakeholders
·  A rigorous attention to detail and a highly systematic and logical mindset
·  Ability to communicate new processes and coach finance users on finance systems / ·  Project management experience particularly in system implementation (ideally finance systems).
KNOWLEDGE
Essential / Desirable
·  A CCAB qualified accountant with practical experience of working with finance teams
·  Excellent IT technical skills together with an ability to communicate complex ideas to non-financial staff. / ·  PRINCE 2
EXPERIENCE
Essential / Desirable
·  Experience of financial accounting in the workplace including:
o  Accounts payable processes
o  Invoicing and accounts receivable processes
o  General ledger management including journal posting, bank reconciliation and internal control management
·  Experience of communicating financial information to non-financial stakeholders
·  Experience of working with finance systems
·  Experience of implementing a new finance system
·  / ·  A passion for systems and a logical and IT mindset.
·  Project management experience and of liaising / managing system implementers and or suppliers
TRAINING
Essential / Desirable
·  Qualified member of one of the CCAB accountancy bodies and evidence of continuous professional development
·  Good level of financial literacy and numeracy including the ability to prepare and analyse financial information.
·  Competent IT skills particularly MS Excel and MS Word.
