Finance Assistant (Wakefield Finance Team)

Payscale:16 – 20

Reporting to:Accounts Supervisor

Accountable to: Head of Finance – Wakefield

Purpose

To assist in ensuring the financial good health and appropriate financial management of the parts of Sense supported by the Wakefield Finance Team, including Sense International.

To work flexibly as a member of the Finance Team to ensure the smooth operation and development of a high quality, efficient and cost effective support service for operational managers and directors within Sense and Sense International.

To ensure that the Finance Team and the parts of Sense it supports operates in accordance with Sense finance policies and regulations.

Key responsibilities

1.1To be responsible for the day to day maintenance of the Financial Ledgers as instructed.

1.2To ensure that all financial transactions are appropriately coded, authorised and processed in line with the financial procedures.

1.3To liaise with both internal and external parties to respond to and resolve queries.

1.4To reconcile supplier statements on a monthly basis.

1.5To chase outstanding provisionally posted invoices on at least a monthly basis.

1.6To check and process credit card returns on a monthly basis.

1.7To prepare and bank all monies received on a regular basis.

1.8Where appropriate to assist in the management of deafblind people’s finances

1.9To ensure that staff follow all relevant financial procedures, providing advice as required

1.10To comply with Sense policies and procedures regarding the operation of services and employment of staff, whilst actively promoting the principles of equal opportunities and working in a manner that maintains a safe, health and supportive environment for all involved with the operations of Sense.

1.11To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post.

Person Specification

Finance Assistant

Education and Training
Essential / Desirable
A positive approach to providing high quality, developmental services for people with deafblindness and related disabilities. / Knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with deafblindness and related disabilities.
A good statutory education with passes in GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent and evidence of a commitment to continued learning. / Studying towards AAT
A good understanding of the operation of a computerised purchase ledger and double entry bookkeeping. / . A good understanding of financial procedures and accounting practises
Achievements and Experience
Essential / Desirable
Substantial record of work experience within a general accounting or financial administration role. / Sales ledger experience.
Working knowledge of computerised accounting systems. / Knowledge of Sun.
Working knowledge of the state benefits system and how it impacts on people in residential care.
Skills & Abilities
Essential / Desirable
An ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of groups. / Advanced Information Technology Skills.
A proven ability to successfully prioritise tasks
A demonstrable commitment to the principles and practices of equal opportunities.
An ability to build effective working relationships with internal colleagues and eternal agencies, so that objectives are met consistently and change is introduced successfully.
Good information data input skills. Good working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.
