FINAL ZOO TRIP INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!

Parents and Guardians,

The zoo trip is fast approaching. I have some additional information attached. If you have any other questions, please contact me at . Unfortunately, due to professionalism, I am NOT giving out my personal telephone number. However, this email gets sent to my phone, so I should be able to get back to you quickly, even on the day of the trip.

Here is the final list that I have. Let me know if anything is incorrect. Remember, if you are a chaperone, you are accepting responsibility for your student, including getting them to and from the zoo.

Attached is additional information about the trip that you might find useful:

When: Saturday, April 30thor May 7th

  • Meet IN FRONT OF THE MAIN ZOO GATES (By the Ticket Booths) at 6:20. I will lead groups into the zoo promptly at 6:35, so please don’t be late. If you think you are going to be late, please let me know ahead of time.
  • Please have all of your supplies and sleeping materials with you at the entrance gate.
  • PARKING: You can park in any non-handicap space. If they try to make you pay for parking at the parking gate, simply let them know you are there for a camp in.

What to bring:

  • Sleeping Bag or Air Mattress. The zoo provides tiny mats to put below the sleeping bags and the air mattresses.
  • Camera or cell phone camera. There will be TONS of picture opportunities available.
  • Charging cord if you bring a camera. There are not a lot of power outlets available, so if you have a spare extension cord with outlets on it you could bring, that could be a big help.
  • A change of clothes, deodorant (PLEASE…..), tooth brush/tooth paste
  • Comfortable shoes. On a typical evening, we walk close to 2 miles around the zoo and about 2.5 miles every morning. It will be slow paced, but flip flops or similar shoes might be uncomfortable.
  • Rain jacket or windbreaker (Depending on the weather forecast). If it is drizzling or windy we will STILL go outside.
  • Normal flash lights will not be permitted. Only flashlights with red lenses are allowed so the lights will not startle the animals.
  • WE WILL NOT be stopping by gift shops, ice cream carts, or coffee shops during the program. If you choose to stay afterwards on Sunday, you can bring money for that then, but otherwise, don’t plan on visiting those shops during the program.
  • Remember, I do NOT recommend gaming systems, iPods, or cell phones for the students (unless they are being used as a camera). The zoo or I are not responsible for any items lost or damaged on the trip.

What are we eating?

  • I am ordering 4 cheese pizzas and 4 pepperoni pizzas from Donatos. We will eat these at 9PM. These are not intended as a dinner, but as a snack.

When is it over?

  • At 10AM Sunday, I will say goodbye to the groups. If you spent the night, you have free admission to the zoo that Sunday, so you can always go back and see anything we missed. If you choose to leave the zoo and want to re-enter, make sure you go to Guest Relations for a hand stamp.

The Schedule

6:20 PM – Arrival Time

7:00-9:00- Evening Hike of the Zoo with Mr. Barnes, visiting the elephants, rhinos, monkeys, red pandas, giant snake, and tigers. (Weather Dependent)

9:00-9:30 – Donatos Pizza (Cheese and Pepperoni) and Snacks (chips, cookies, and Capri Suns are provided) This is NOT intended to be dinner, but a snack…so each person will only receive a few slices of pizza.

9:30-9:45 – Craft Time!

9:45-11:00 – Mr. Barnes will bring animals into the classroom to touch and pose for pictures. This is the best part of the evening, by far.

11:00 – BEDTIME! Mr. Barnes has a strict “Lights Out” rule by 11:45. Boys and girls will sleep in separate rooms.

7:00 – WAKE-UP CALL

7:45 – Breakfast (Cereal, muffins, bagels, granola bars, applesauce, milk, orange juice)

8:15-10:00 AM – Morning Hike of the Zoo before it opens. We will try to see as many animals as possible and I may even squeeze in a behind the scenes opportunity.

10:00 AM – The Camp-In is over, but you have admission to the zoo for the rest of the day. It is up to you if you want to stay or leave at this time.
