Final Video Project Rubric

Name

Student Number

Each film will be marked using the following rubric. It is critical that all video material are free from copy-right restrictions so it is shareable with attribution. Note that the final video mark is out of 150 points with the potential for 10 bonus points; a perfect mark could have a total of 160 points. Recall that your video project accounts for 50% of the course’s coursework mark – or 30% of the course’s final mark. 10% of this mark is the draft PowerPoint that was due on 10 May 2017. The remaining 90% comes from this rubric and satisfaction thereof.

Introduction / Clearly state objectives, reflect the concerns of food security, provide background information of the food species, provide a background for the selected region (country, province/state/county). / /20
Methods / Describe what data you got, how it was processed, what variable you used. / /20
Results / Presents maps (1) current global distribution, (2) future (2050) global distribution, (3) current regional distribution and (4) future (2050) regional distribution.
Maps to be considered include: ECOCROPS, Domain, Bioclim, Limiting Factor, and any other maps/graphs. Each map should include a readable legend, a north arrow, a meaningful scale, an appropriate title and useful caption. All maps must have a proper annotation and be appropriately captioned. / /40
Interpretation / P=Potential: Consider the species’ potential to either increase its role as a food plant or for significant investment to be made to establish economically productive cultivation now and given anticipated climate changes. You should be primarily considering biophysical aspects of the food plant and its production. / /10
L=Limitations: What conditions current or in the future would limit the opportunity for expansion of this food plant or the opportunity for introduction to new parts of the selected region? / /10
O=Opportunities: This will expand on your biophysical analysis for potential needs. This part of the analysis attempts to answer the following more socio-economic questions:
1. Are there good export options?
2. Is demand for the species likely to increase as new taste fashions are presented?
3. Is demand for the species likely to increase to provide health benefits in certain markets?
4. Does your regional area have a competitive advantage in terms of exports?
5. Is there a potential to exploit marketing niches/gaps or expand seasonal availability in
certain affluent markets? / /10
T=Threats: Could the introduction and expansion of production result in potential for the plant to become an invasive problem? Are there similar regions that could out-compete your selected region's production of this food plant? Is there a risk of over-production and global gluts that might push production costs higher than economic returns? / /10
Conclusions / Summary of your research outcomes. / /5 (Bonus)
References / List of data sources and references. / /5 (Bonus)
Video Quality / Voice quality is clear and consistently audible throughout the presentation. The pace (rhythm and voice punctuation) fits the narrative and helps the audience really connect to the content. Any used music matches the narrative and the images. / /20
Grammar and Language / Grammar and word usage should not distract the audience; language should be correct and contribute to clarity, style and enhance the development of the narrative. / /10
Total / /150
