3 Chunk Courage Paragraph

**FINAL DRAFT DUE MONDAY, October 3 (Typed).

Topic Sentence:

·  Introduces the topic and the writer’s opinion about the topic.

·  Includes titles and author’s names for each short stories discussed in paragraph.

Three 1-chunks

·  TWO CHUNK RATIO with a 1:2 ratio of CD:CM.

·  Make each of your CD’s a quote with a transition and lead in.

·  Make sure each argument (chunk) CLEARLY supports your topic sentence.

Concluding sentence

·  Do not include any new information that has not already been discussed in the paragraph. In other words, the concluding sentence should summarize the main points mentioned throughout your essay. Avoid beginning your concluding sentence with the phrase “in conclusion” and leave the reader with a thought or insight to ponder.

Formal Writing Guidelines

Any of the following guidelines not followed will result in a lower grade in the grammar/conventions portion of the rubric.

1.  Write in present tense. (Is NOT was)

2.  NO 1st person pronouns (I, me, we, you, our, us, your, yours, etc.)

3.  Use active NOT passive voice (refrain from using words like could, should, may, maybe)

4.  Topic sentence should appear as the FIRST sentence of the paragraph. Topic sentence should convey the meaning of the entire paragraph and answer the prompt.

5.  Quotation citation, “---quote---” (Author’s Last Name Page #). OR paraphrased CD (fact/example written in your own words) followed by PD.

6.  Quotations should have a transition and lead-in.

7.  Paragraphs should include at least 3 points of proof or SPECIFIC examples (CD’s) to support your idea.
