English Literature and Composition I – 2015

EXAM Particulars

Constructed Response Question – You will have a constructed response question to complete and submit before FINAL EXAM day. We will complete the CRQin class the week before finals.

Vocabulary– You will take the written vocabulary test on FINAL EXAM day.

(ALL Students must complete the following and submit on or before Wednesday, May 20th.)

  • Write the word, parts of speech, definitions, synonyms and antonyms. Do not print from the website. You may type it out and print or write out by hand.
  • Choose twenty of the words and compose your own sentences using the words. Underline the words. DO NOT copy sentences from the internet. I will check!
  • Complete the vocabulary packet for accuracy.
  • Create a practice/study worksheet (word search, crossword puzzle, quiz, etc. with an answer key). You will trade and complete student-designed worksheets.
  • Study the words for the written FINAL EXAM. You are responsible for all definitions, parts of speech, synonyms and antonyms.

Final Project Presentation – You will present your projects on FINAL EXAM day, after the vocabulary test.

Project Choices – Choose one. (You must meet all requirements to get full credit.) All documents/projects must be submitted on Friday, May 22nd. No exceptions!

Independent Novel Project (Choose your own book with a Lexile of at least 1050, but you must get it approved by your teacher.)

  • Read your approved novel.
  • Complete a 25-entry double-entry journal.
  • Complete a 15-point biographical outline of the author’s life.
  • Create a graphic representation of your novel. (Movie Poster, Book Cover, Diorama, Webpage, etc.)
  • Compile all components and submit as one document.
  • Prepare on oral presentation for FINAL EXAM day. (You may use presentation software or other visuals if you wish. Please see Mrs. Davis to coordinate this.)

Poetry Analysis Project

  • Choose a collection of 10 poems from any combination of poets from the list below and complete the matrix. You may choose one poet not represented on this list. You may also choose to use one popular song as a poem; however, it must be school appropriate.
  • Print and illustrate the 10 poems that you chose.
  • Compose 2 of your own poems and illustrate them.
  • Choose one of the poet’s listed and create a 15-point biographical outline of the poet’s life.
  • Compile all items into a decorated poetry book.
  • Prepare a recitation (not reading) of 1 of the provided poems and 1 of your original poems for FINAL EXAM day.
