ORGANISATION RELATIONSHIPS

Position reports to / HEAD – Ship Repairs

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary position
Objective / To lead the department in a manner that meets its agreed vision and values and to establish its position as an internationally recognised ship repairer
Key responsibilities / ·  Responsible for ensuring that the Yard Operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
·  Responsible for ensuring that the Yard Operations are environmentally friendly and in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
·  To maintain safe work culture and address the department regularly during tool box talks and any other informal meetings.
·  Docking/Undocking:
a)  Ensure proper maintenance of Ship lift platform through maintenance manager and Dock Master.
b)  Plan and execute periodic survey of the platform and liquidate all the observations in time to maintain maximum ops ability.
c)  Receive requisite info from Sales and plan berths availability for ships coming for repairs.
d)  Ensure docking plans/forms are judiciously recorded.
e)  Prepare blocks for docking as per docking plan approved by Dock Master.
f)  Ensure safe docking/undocking and transfer operations through Dock Master and Transfer system in-charge.
·  Project Management/Refit co-ordination:
a)  Prepare project plans through Project managers and check progress regularly.
b)  Ensure quality compliance is adhered to meet customer’s satisfaction.
c)  Ensure timely completion of the scope of work with multifold quality checks.
d)  Liaise with all sub-contractors involved in projects through project manager.
e)  Ensure that projects are delivered within agreed time scales and budgets
f)  Ensure close liaison with commercial department to maximise financial return on all projects.
·  Yard Utilities/Services:
a)  Assess vessels requirements for services required through services manager and provide accordingly.
b)  Ensure all yard utilities are in their utmost ops ability through proper periodic maintenance.
c)  Maintain Yard services inventory throughout to meet immediate requirements.
d)  Ensure all jobs with respect to AMC are in proper order. Yard drain system is to be ensured free of fouling.
e)  Ensure all hired utilities are in proper ops state and operators are well trained.
·  Electrical/PGD:
a)  Ensure electrical services like shore supply and other ancillary connections are provided to the vessel immediately on arrival on repair berths.
b)  All generators are maintained and available throughout for supplying 50 hz to vessels requiring the same as well as the yard.
c)  Ensure mobile generator sets hired or owned are available at all times.
d)  Closely liaise with MSEB for grid power, meticulously record all power meters for maintaining power factor through electrical managers.
e)  Maintain all electrical facilities of the yard including tower lights, feeder pillars, all panels etc. With respect to periodic and breakdown maintenance.
·  Workshops:
a)  Ensure all equipments are ops throughout to maintain productivity at max through work shop supervisors/production managers.
b)  Maintain workshop inventory/accountability of special tool.
·  Stores Management:
a)  Ensure Yard stores properly managed through qualified store keepers and material handlers.
b)  Ensure proper inventory management is adhered through policies and procedures.
·  Ensure all workforces are properly trained and certified to carry out the assigned jobs in a safe and smooth manner. Conduct regular training through concerned managers/supervisors.
·  Ensure that the business Plan is operated efficiently to meet the forecasted budget.
·  Ensure yard cleanliness is given prime importance to become a safe working yard. “A clean Yard is a safe Yard”.
·  Responsibility for all employees in department and their continued development
·  Implementing ISO standards for safety, environmental and quality management.

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

·  Bachelor Degree in marine engineering / Shipbuilding or equivalent
·  Significant experience (15 years +)in relevant field
