FIFTH GRADE POLICIES

Homework Policy

You should expect your child to have homework EVERY night.

The amount of homework and the subject in which homework is received will vary daily, but homework should never exceed 90 minutes. This is to include 30 minutes of reading every night.

You MUST sign your child’s agenda each night so that the teacher can be sure you were aware of any assigned homework.

Students are responsible for writing down assignments daily.

Any homework missed due to absence must be handed in within a week of return, and is the student’s responsibility.

Long-term projects will not be accepted late. Projects may be assigned throughout the year. The due dates of these projects will be given in advance.

We believe that homework is important as a reinforcement and practice tool of the skills taught in the classroom. We ask, therefore, that you help your child succeed by providing a quiet environment in which to work, creating a consistent homework schedule, and encouraging him/her to do his/her best work.

Communication Policy

We encourage regular communication between teacher and parent. We may be calling you from time to time to discuss the progress of your child. E-mail is the most effective way to reach us, however, fell free to call us at school (704-660-5970) at any time. If we are busy, we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Your child will bring home a folder weekly. The folder will contain a stapled packet of graded papers. Please check through these papers (some may require a parent signature) and return them in the folder on the next school day. You should also check the folder for important informational notices. A parent signature sheet will be attached to the inside of the folder – please sign and date this sheet each week.

Discipline Policy

The Fifth grade team feels fair and consistent consequences for bad choices are essential. I will enforce the following grade level discipline policy.

Green – parent signature

Yellow – parent signature

Orange – silent lunch, time away from group setting

Red – parent phone call

Blue – after school detention/office referral

Severe or repetitive offenses will result in a parent phone call and/or after school detention. Teacher discretion will be used for these offenses.
