Field Trip Summary Questions

1.Of the stands that we saw, which performed better in terms of early height and diameter growth, the stands planted with more trees per acre or less trees per acre? Explain at least 2 of the discussed potential reasons that these stands may have performed better and how these reasons may allow the trees to grow more quickly.

2.How is WeyCo growing their seed orchard that differs from the most “modern” method? Why are they doing things this way? How long are they keeping their trees for? What generation of improved seedling stock is WeyCo now on?

3.Discuss several(at least 3)of the recommendations that various WeyCo employees gave in regards to applying to jobs in private industry.

4.Describe the strategy that an otherwise healthy seedling will employ in order to get above browse level after being heavily browsed, potentially a few years in a row. How does this strategy inform the way in which we grow seedings for planting?
