Models Project: Models for TeachingSchool Health

Student Teaching Field Experience

Three students will be accepted on a “first come basis” to complete the secondary level models project in Health. Those identified and approved by the Health Faculty member are responsible for scheduling a 30 minute appointment with the Health faculty member to establish a time line for projectcompletion .

Part I:(75 points)
This will provide an introduction and include the following sections:

  • Section 1: Identification of the teaching model selected and a discussion of its assumptions and unique characteristics; a description of the school site ; grade level selected; demographics of the class; and resources available in the classroom and at the school appropriate for the selected teaching model.

(15 points)

  • Section 2: Rationale statement for the unit and an initial description of the unit. (10 points)
  • Section 3:Development, administration, and analysis of a student interest survey and a pre-post exam. Document how the results of the student interest survey influence the sequence of the five lessons. (25 points)
  • Section 4: A teaching matrix for the five lessons written for the field-based application.Print matrix landscape to allow for sufficient space for the information provided in each cell.You may include more than 4 teaching cues per lesson.(25 points)

Part II:(100 points)

The five written lesson plans summarized above are to appear in this section. Lessons are to follow the “Seven Components of a Health Lesson” format. From the five, videotaped, lessons taught in the classroom, two are to be edited out and the three remaining should represent your best teaching of the selected model. These three lessons should appear on one videotape. Each written lesson will be graded on a 20 point scale.

Part III: (25 points)

This sectionis to include student grades for each lesson assessment. Refer to the Seven Components of a Lesson Plan, evaluation section on the requirements for evaluation. A discussion should also be included specific to the change from pre-test to post-test for each student (percent change; areas of greatest change; areas of least change)

Part IV:(40 points)

The video tape of the three selected lessons is to be included in this section. A written debriefing of the three lessons is to include (1) Discussion of how you incorporated the unique characteristics of the model in your teaching of each of the lessons; (2) Examples of student engagement during each of the lessons (3) Reflections on what went well and what you would do differently when teaching in the selected model and (4) From the three, videotaped lessons, select the one that best reflects your ability to apply the model and support your choice.The three videotaped lessons will be reviewed by the instructor using the standard Health teaching observation form.)

All completed surveys and exams are to be handed in along with the above four parts. The final project should appear in a notebook with one videotape attached.
