Benenden U12/13
Festival of Tennis 2014
Welcome to our annual U12/13 Tennis event – we hope you enjoy the afternoon!Match teas will be provided in the Dining Hall after the event and this is also where the medals will be presented.
The format of the festival will be as follows:
1.30pmWarm Up and Briefing to staff
1.45pmRound 1 Pool matches start on Splash courts
3.40pm approx.Round 2 Pool matches start on Splash and Ma/Med courts
4.00pm approx.Semi-Finals followed by Final and 3rd/4th play-off on Splash courts
4.15pm approx.Match teas for all schools
- Initially, all pairs are in groups of 5 (one group of 6), where they play each other in a round robin format, staying on the same court throughout. The purpose of the festival is to give the girls the opportunity to play tennis against various other pairs thus the matches are fairly short. There will be no changing of ends.
- In each match we will play the first to 9 points (NOT the best of 9). Players serve two serves each (R then L of court as usual) alternately thus player A1, B1, A2, B2 in rotation throughout until someone reaches 9 points.
- There will be a match scorecard for each court and Benenden staff will keep these updated. The scorecard also has a match order and record to monitor so the pairs play in the correct order per court. Score sheets will be copied for each school after the event.
- After the initial pools are complete in round 1, we re-group for round 2, with the competition ending for those coming 5th or 6th in their groups. The winner of each group plus the three best performing second places (see explanation on order of play) will compete in the quarter finals knockout. All other pairs will compete in four new groups of three for their overall placings.
- Round 3 will involve the Quarter Final winners competing in the Semi-Finals prior to Round 4, where the Final and 3rd/4th place play-off are scheduled.
- Medals will be presented to the overall Winners, Runners Up and 3rd placed pairs.
- To work out pool position, the total number of matches won will first be used. If there is a tie on this between two pairs, head to head result will be the decider. If more than two pairs are tied, the total number of points won will be used. After this, the total number of points lost will be used to determine positions.
- The format remains the same for all rounds of the Festival.
