Marv Nelson Memorial Scholarship

Guidelines:

The Marv Nelson Memorial Scholarship was established in the fall of 2015 by his family. Marv was ateacher for the Fertile-Beltrami School system for 32 years. Marv was known to be a perfectionist in all that he did and his high expectations pulled those around him to also excel. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students to further their education in any university, college, technical college, or other accredited institution of higher education.

Application Deadline: All application materials must be received in the counselor’s office by 4 p.m. on April 1st.

Selection: The Fertile-Beltrami Education Foundation’s Board of Directors will serve as the selection committee. Awards will be based on the application information submitted and criteria established by the Norland family.

Criteria: The applicant must:

  1. Pursue a degree in any science field

2. Demonstrate high character, leadership skills, motivation, initiative, and respect for others;

3. Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50 during the last two years of his/her education;

4. Plan to attend a technical college, 4-year college or university, or other accredited institution of higher education.

Award: One $500 award will be presented each spring to a graduating senior. The award will be announced at the Honors Banquet. A check for $500 will be available in the F-B school office to be picked up by the recipient following completion of the first semester of the student's first year with proof of college attendance and passing grades.

** If there are not applicants within a given year that plan to pursue the medical field, the scholarship money will be given to someone intending to go into the field of education**

Application Cover Sheet

Application for the Marv Nelson Memorial Scholarship consists of four parts. Please submit the following information.

1. Completed application cover sheet (see below)

2. A copy of your high school transcript, signed by a school official.

3. A statement of your educational goals

4. A resume of your high school, community and church activities; include any offices held in the organizations you have belong to while in high school. Please include activities that demonstrate your leadership skills, initiative, and respect and caring for others. The resume can be more than one page.

5. Two letters of recommendation from adults who is are not a relative, but knows you, perhaps has worked with you, or knows your involvement in activities an/or organizations.
