FERRARI FEVER AT 2006 CLASSIC ADELAIDE

Vehicles representing nearly half a century of the Ferrari marque will participate in this year’s Classic Adelaide, to be held from November 16-20.

“As the featured marque in this year’s event with official endorsement from Ferrari, Classic Adelaide will feature the most diverse array of Ferrari models ever assembled in Australia,” says Classic Adelaide Chairman David Edwards.

“We have cars ranging from the 1958 Ferrari 250 LBW being brought from the USA by owners Stephen and Lynn Dudley to the latest Ferrari 612 Scaglietti with its front-engined 5.7 litre V-12 housed in an all aluminum space frame and body.”

The sheer number of Ferrari vehicles participating in the event is awe inspiring with 100 cars now listed and valued at a conservative $35,000,000.

Ferraris participating include the Ferrari F50, F40, 288 GTO, 365 GTB, the Dino 246GT, the 550 Maranello, the Mondial, and the F360 Modena, all converging on Adelaide from all parts of Australia and from around the world.

“In addition to the Australian cars, we have Ferraris arriving from the USA, the UK, South Africa, Italy, New Zealand, and Switzerland,” Edwards added.

A special guest at this year’s Classic Adelaide is former Ferrari Formula 1 and sports car driver Stephan Johansson.

It will be Johansson’s first visit to Adelaide since he competed for Ferrari in the 1985 and 1986 Australian Formula One Grand Prix, finishing fifth and third respectively. Johansson also drove a Ferrari to victory in the classic American long distance race, the 12 hours of Sebring in 1997.

Members of the public will be able to see the cars over the four days of competition starting in Victoria Square in the heart of Adelaide every morning.

A prologue to the event to be held on a section of Adelaide’s former Grand Prix circuit in Victoria Park on November 16 and this is also open to the public as is the Crown Lager Gouger Street Party to be held in the heart of one of Adelaide’s entertainment precincts on the evening of Friday November 18.

Classic Adelaide is not only one of the world’s finest classic tarmac rally events for competitors, but it also enables enthusiasts to view the cars performing and close-up at the various lunch stop and displays free of charge.
