The Fern Creek Fire Protection District is seeking applicants for an open Firefighter position on a 24/48 work shift. All applications must be submitted to Capt. Kim Wells at 9409 Old Bardstown Road no later than 4pm on 9/1/2017.
All applicants must meet the following criteria to apply:
Minimum 18 years of age
Have a valid driver’s license
Have a High School Diploma or a GED
Kentucky State certification as an EMT
IFSAC certifications I & II
Hazardous Materials Operations Level certification
CPAT
To be considered for employment, applicants must pass a criminal background check, drug screening, physical agility and medical test.

Firefighter Salary and Benefits
24/48 hour position
- Annual salary$36,869.73
- Annual State Incentive $4000.00 – upon completion of eligibility requirements
- Participation in the KY State Retirement System - Employee contribution is 9%
- Health insurance – Humana Insurance; currently paid at 100% by the District. Employee is responsible for $500 single/$1000 family deductible per calendar year. Employee is responsible for co-pays, prescriptions, and normal related costs.
- Short and long term disability
- $25,000 life insurance
- Dental and vision - currently paid at 100% for the employee only. Family coverage available at the employee’s expense.
- Supplemental insurance is available at the employee’s expense.
- Sick time: accrues 6 hours monthly for the first year; 72 hours received for each completed year thereafter.
- PTO time: 132 hours after completion of first year; 192 hours after completion of three years; 252 hours after completion of 10 years; 312 hours after completion of 15 years; 372 hours after completion of 20 years.
- Kentucky Deferred Compensation – voluntary participation/no employer contributions.
