Being long established in the growing of plants with roots running three generations deep, Poplar Garden, Home & Gift has evolved to become one of the leading independent garden centres in Essex. It is renowned for its wide range of plants and great customer service. All of the plants staff have a sound horticultural knowledge which enables them to deal with plant enquiries and give advice if needed. SHUTTLEWORTH COLLECTION – FLYING DAY

The Shuttleworth Collection is an aircraft and vehicle museum located at the Old Warden Aerodrome, in Bedfordshire. It is one of the most prestigious in the world due to the variety of old and well-preserved aircraft.The event season at Shuttleworth gets underway for 2016 with the ‘heavies’. There is live music, vehicle parades and a wonderful flying display of visiting aircraft and some of those from the collection.

Next to the aerodrome that houses the collection, is the Swiss Garden which is an outstanding example of the Regency fashion for creating landscapes in a picturesque alpine style.

STAMFORD, LINCOLNSHIRE or BURGHLEY HOUSE

Declared a conservation area in 1967, Stamford has over 600 listed buildings all in mellow limestone in the town centre including 5 medieval churches. It is also home to one of the oldest provincial theatres, built in 1768 which is now used as the arts centre. There are plenty of shops to peruse and buildings to explore or you could have a quiet walk along the river. If you fancy, you could follow the ‘Town Trail’ which takes you around Stamford through passageways, market squares and along the main bustling street with plenty of coffee shops and stores to tempt you! Or enjoy a visit to Burghley house. Built between 1555 and 1587 the house has been beautifully preserved and restored. Take a look round the old kitchen, the chapel, the billiard room and many of the bedrooms.

Join us for a trip back in time in one of our vintage coaches to Burwell Open Air Museum. This place is steeped in history with lots to see from a working windmill, (which if you’re feeling adventurous you can climb to the top of), rare vintage vehicles, an old schoolroom, village shop and even a working forge! There is an old telephone exchange and war memorabilia including an old Nissen Hut. There will also be time for a yummy afternoon tea consisting of a cup of tea or coffee, sandwiches and cake.

Tuesday 21st June

BLETCHLEY PARK or MILTON KEYNES

Step back in time at Bletchley Park and explore the old code breaking huts, have a look round the mansion and the many exhibits that are on display throughout. There are soundscapes playing snatches of conversation, music, noises of bicycle bells and steam trains which is how it may have sounded during WW2. The landscape has been restored to its WW2 appearance and the footprints of the long-gone Huts 2 and 9 marked out to remind visitors where they were. The tennis courts have also been restored to grass, as they were in the early 40s. This place is steeped in history and well worth a visit. Or if you fancy a day in the “city in the country” wandering round the lovely parks and along the river and stopping in some riverside pubs, finished off with some shopping, then Milton Keynes is the place for you.

MISSISSIPPI PADDLE BOAT

We invite you to take a trip with us to Norfolk for a cruise on the Mississippi Paddle Boat departing from Horning. We will stop at Wroxham Barns for lunch. Choose from either; cheese and tomato quiche with new potatoes OR penne pasta in a bolognese sauce and for dessert either lemon meringue pie OR raspberry ripple sundae. The boat sails at 3:00pm and the cruise lasts for roughly 1 ½ hours. The luxury river cruiser runs from the beautiful village of Horning, along the River Bure and out to Ranworth Broad and back, passing lovely old thatched houses, windmills and Norfolk reed beds. Throughout the trip there is an excellent commentary.
