Feeding the Dream Fund Drive

The Florida Senior Sports Association (FSSA), GIVING FEELS AWESOME (GFA) charitable arm of the organization is focused on a fundamental principle: Those with much, helping those with little! The GFA is led by Director of Operations, Rafael Nunez, and is an operating 501c charitable organization.

During our 2013 mission trip to the Dominican Republic we established a plan to bring a young man back to the United States to attend a private high school in Melbourne, Florida. Dionis is a fine young man with a brighter future now as the school provided professional tutoring in both academics and baseball. FSSA provided this young man 2 years of college prep schooling at Florida Prep Academy, which is one of the best high school prep schools on the East Coast. The school has an over fifty-year tradition of preparing students for college. Winky Blackman, Roger Tabor, and Jack Aronson have contributed to a Scholarship Fund for Dionis Toribio to attend college in the Dominican. He is doing very well in school and after having lived in the United States for the past two years he can speak fluent English and desires to serve in the US military after college.

The Program was very successful with Dionis and with the support of our membership and donors we have extended this opportunity to another two young men from a small village in the Dominican Republic. The FSSA members and donors to our organization are changing entire villages by providing a well to people without running water to their homes. We refer to this program as “WATER The Gift of Life.” Please refer to the list of accomplishments by our organization over the last 4 years. I would also point out that zero dollars go to any board members of the FSSA and all donations are tax deductible.

Over the last 3 years a local film company made a documentary about how softball-playing members of the FSSA have changed the lives of hundreds of under privileged people by their giving in Florida, Michigan and the Dominican Republic. The award-winning documentary titled “Extra Innings” was awarded one of the Best Documentaries of the 2015 Atlanta film festival and is being used as a fund raising vehicle. We prayerfully ask you to help us continue to help the less fortunate!

Extra Innings is

the award-winning Documentary about

a group of FSSA senior athletes dealing with life's

challenges and the aging process while transitioning into

a life that they may not have imagined for themselves in

the past.

Facing retirement, losing loved ones, and fighting life’s challenges, these men share a special bond that has “Team Hollis” changing their ways. The drive to win is there but the opportunity to change lives is being discovered as these men seek to give of themselves and to make a difference wherever they go. Drawing on their life stories, experiences, and travels they give us a glimpse of what it means to live for others and live life to the fullest, all through the game of softball. The word “Senior' may give these guys a discount but it does not define who they are. It’s never too late to find passion in life! Enjoy this humorous, entertaining and emotional journey as the director has captured moments that will have you laughing, crying and looking forward to your senior years.
