September Kindergarten News
o In literacy we will be learning to recognize letters and letter sounds through the Jolly Phonics program- s, a, t, i, p, n ck, e, h, r, m d, g, o, u, l, f, b, ai, j, oa, ie, ee, or, and z
o In literacy we will be learning to read and write the sight words I, a, my, like and color words
o In literacy we will begin our Reading Fundamentals Launch Unit, skills that will be covered- making connections, purpose of the genre, text features/structure, concepts of print, visualizing, finding word meaning (vocabulary), synthesizing, and determining importance
o In literacy we will be reading our shared books- Clowning Around with Letters, A Party, My Friend at School and Colors 1-2-3
o In literacy we will be listening to stories
o In literacy we will be reading poems together
o In literacy we will be reading and making our very own Brown Bear book
o In literacy we will be writing in journals
o In fine motor skills we will be learning how to correctly hold/use scissors, crayons, markers, paint brushes, glue and pencils
o In fine motor skills we will begin the Handwriting Without Tears program
o In fine motor skills we will be learning to write our first name (upper case letter at the beginning and the rest of the letters lower case)
o In school skills we will be learning the school and classroom routine
o In school skills we will be learning how to be “Quality Workers”
o In school skills we will be working on our listening skills
o In math we will be learning how to do calendar time and mental math
o In math we will begin Module 1-Counting and Cardinality/Measurement and Data
o In math we will be learning to print numbers 0-5
o In social studies we will be learning how to make friends, make good choices and begin a unit on Families
o In science we will begin our Physical Science unit on observing objects and how things move
o We will be going to library and physical education for the first time
o We will play on the playground and learn the playground safety rules
