Federalist v. Anti-Federalist DebateAP Government and Politics
You will use primary source documents to prepare a short speech and write a paper on the Federalist/Anti-Federalist document. You will use the information from the document to formulate a two-minute speech either supporting or opposing the ratification of the Constitution. Using your document and those of your opposition you will write a paper comparing the view of the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. Follow the guidelines below:
- Prepare a speech supporting or opposing the ratification of the Constitution.
- Document:
- Using your document as a guide, your speech should address the following:
- Why should delegates support/oppose the Constitution?
- What arguments would your opposition counter with concerning your topic? How do you respond to those arguments?
You must be prepared to give your speech in class on Wednesday, January 18!
- Write a paper comparing the views of the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists concerning the issues raised by your document. Your paper should be typed and approximately two pages in length (double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman). Use short quotes from the primary sources, examples, and response to the following questions:
- What elements of the Constitution are at issue?
- What arguments did the Anti-Federalists pose in opposition?
- How did the Federalists defend the Constitution?
- Have these elements been an issue historically since the ratification?
- Are these elements an issue today?
Your paper is due Thursday, January 19!
