FEDERAL WORK STUDY PROGRAM – BASIC SCIENCE

This job is a Federal Work Study, non-benefited position in the Basic Science Program

Salary: $10 per hour

Hours: 15-20 hours per week, varies semester to semester

Minimum Qualifications: Work Study eligible Gwinnett Technical College student for current semester.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, the following qualifications are desired:

·  Successfully completed Basic Science courses at GTC

·  Encouraging, approachable personality with the ability to communicate ideas with students

·  Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload

Job Description Summary: Monitor, encourage and facilitate group study sessions for Basic Science students in STEM center. Maintain log of attendance and manage study environment with multiple study groups.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

1.  Promotes peer study sessions for Basic Science courses; organized and adaptable to change in procedure

·  Facilitates study groups for Basic Science courses including Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Microbiology and Physics.

·  Efficiently and creatively encourage peer group study

·  Maintain attendance log by course

2.  Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.

·  Demonstrates eagerness to assume responsibility; displays a “can do” approach to work

·  Shows persistence and seeks alternatives in assisting students in mastering concepts in Basic Science courses

·  Works within the system in a resourceful and respectful manner to accomplish reasonable work goals; shows flexibility in response to process change and adapts to and accommodates new methods and procedures

·  Accepts direction and feedback from supervisors and follow through appropriately

·  Works when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected; notifies supervisor in accordance with department policy with arriving late or when absent; observes provisions of Fair Labor Standards Act; uses work time appropriately.
