President’s Message
DearAPICS Members & Enthusiasts,
This month we will once again be inviting an academic speaker to our PDM for a thought provoking session with Dr. Steven Leon, Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at ASU. Dr. Leon’s topic will cover "Changing Operations through Data Insights". As a self-proclaimed “Data Person”, I am excited to hear about such a discussion, and I look forward to the exchange. As you will read in the description elsewhere in this newsletter, it does evoke thoughts to promote “thinking outside of the box” by being creative in our solutions to problems (or “challenges” as I like to call them!). I do hope you can take some time out of your busy schedule to become more enlightened on the topic by joining us on Thursday, February 9th. Who knows, maybe you will leave with some inspiration to tackle that long-standing issue you have been wrestling with at work.
Looking forward, Bill Phillips, VP of Programs has a solid slate of PDM’s lined up for the remainder of the year, including a tour in March which is always a popular event. Keep these dates blocked on your calendar and hopefully we will see many of you in the coming months.
We look forward to seeing you at the February PDM.
Sincerely,
Debbie Boyle, CSCP
President, Foothills Chapter
February Speaker
Dr. Steven Leon has a PhD in Transportation and Logistics from North Dakota State University
He has over 25 years of both industry and academic experience in leading teams in flight and airline operations, aviation research, web-based learning technologies and has taught supply chain operations management and aviation management courses in multiple universities.
Steven has also started and leads a web-based educational technologies company providing educational services for the airline industry.
He was a professional pilot for Henson Aviation/USAir Express and United Airlines for several years.
Steven has published several peer reviewed and professional industry articles, presented at numerous professional seminars and written numerous supply chain management books and book chapters.
His presentation is about challenging the status quo in operations. Instead of improving current processes, how about we consider doing something different?
