Business Hours / From 9.00am to 5.00pm on a Business Day, unless specified otherwise.
Maximum of 40 hours per week unless given prior approval by the relevant Branch Manager.
Purpose of Services / The Australian Government Shared Services Centre (SSC)provides high quality, cost-effective HR, Finance, Corporate and IT services letting our customers focus on their core business. The SSC requires experienced web developers and designers who can contribute to the design, development, maintenance and hosting of new and existing external-facing websites using the Drupal Content Management System (CMS).
The applicant will need to be able to be able to work quickly in an agile team environment. The applicants’ innovative thinking and experience in the field of web design and development will be required in order to produce professional, creative results in line with government standards.
Responsibilities of this position will include:
- Build Drupal 7 websites using strong skills in front-end web development using html, css and javascript
- Think strategically to help plan and design creative, robust and effective solutions to a variety of websites and online tools
- Ensure that all solutions meet the DTO’s Digital Service Standards
- Collaborate effectively with the team to produce quality outcomes and share knowledge and experience
- Ensure that solutions delivered are responsive, cross-browser compatible, and compliant with accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.0 AA – AAA)
- Using git, project management tools and deployment processes to maintain code and project integrity
- Be actively engaged in problem solving various issuesand other team activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in the dev, test, pre-prod and prod environments (with availability required for on-call escalations to troubleshoot issues).
- Undertake monitoring, back-ups and deployments and further develop, maintain and improve these processes.
- Carry out weekly Drupal patching tasks including deploying these into various environments (out of hours)
- Build or maintain non-Drupal sites and applications including mobile apps based on node.js, ruby, python or other common languages
- Contribute to initial explorations in to Drupal 8 based development
- Assist with testing and establishing robust Constant Integration/Constant Deployment workflows.
Selection criteria
Please note the importance of responding to this Selection Criteria. / Essential Criteria:
- Proficient in Drupal development and configuration including custom module development, understanding of key contributed modules, core API, templates and responsive theming.
- Excellent web-related code skills including a solid and proven understanding of HTML, Javascript, PHP, CSS, and jQuery and source control using git.
- Solid and demonstrated understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0
- Ability to both collaborate with team members and to work independently in a fast paced, agile work environment.
- Experience/knowledge of Drupal 8 framework.
- Understanding of Linux systems and administration, including shell scripting and performance tuning
- Knowledge about the deployment and maintenance of Drupal CMS and other web applications or with LAMP stack apps
- Experience with automation/configuration management and experience establishing continuous integration and continuous deployment workflows.
Intellectual Property Rights – ownership of Contract Material / The Department owns the Intellectual Property Rights in Contract Material
Limitation of liability – cap / For SMEs, the Department will consider a liability cap at either:
$ 5 millionper occurrence, or
$ 10 million in the aggregate
For non-SMEs, the Department will consider a liability cap at either:
$ 10 millionper occurrence, or
$ 20 million in the aggregate
Insurance / As per Item 10 of Schedule 1 of the deed details
Fee structure / Hourly rates including both GST inclusive and exclusive rates, and quoted in either half or full dollars.

Security Clearance Requirements
The minimum security clearance level for this particular position is: Baseline Vetting (Protected)
All positions are “Trusted” and the successful candidate is required to undertake police check to be conducted by the department. Unfavourable outcome may result to early termination of the contract.This check will be arranged by the Shared Services Centre on commencement of the contractor. The Australian Government will meet the cost of police check.
