eiNetwork Update
Anne Candreva announced that Rebecca Serey is the new eiNetwork Director; she will start at the end of the week. Carmella Rizzo is leaving.
Marilyn Jenkins praised the eiNetwork staff for their work during the past six months.
Bobby Hassain dispelled the rumor that each library should move computers before their obsolescence rollout. Libraries should not remove the computers. Yipes and AT&T are continuing the fiber optic installation. The eiNetwork did not have any input on the scheduling of the installation. The acquisition of reservation software is a high priority and staff is reviewing different software packages. The obsolescence rollout will tie up a lot of staff time, so please be patient about other service calls. Grant needs will be taken care of in a timely manner.
Mary McIntyre reported that four sites have received their new computers so far. Most noticed an immediate performance improvement. It is a good idea to prepare patrons for the possibility that service on the days of the rollout may be limited. Gene, the TEK Systems representative, asked that each library designate a staging for the rollout. He said that delivery usually takes place at 8:30 a.m.
ILS- Joan Morris
Innovative assigned six staffers to the project. The local project team is in place. They are

Training task force members are Mary McIntyre, Bobby Hassain, Mike Banfield, Susan Hudak, Kim Chrobak, Jean Kanouff, Mary Theobald, Linda Jennings and Karen Hepner. The hardware and PC task force consists of all eiNetwork staffers. These are the other possible task forces serials, Web OPAC, data testing, reports, Innopac(acquisitions) and kids online. Sue Epstein was in for three days and is presently meeting with III. She will be back on 2/14 to meet with the Parameters/Profiling group.
Microsoft Project 2000 software is being used to manage and track implementation. Some issues considered so far are site preparation and scheduling. Please email questions and suggestions to Joan Morris. Communications concerning the project will be done through monthly letters to directors, users group reports and the member website.
In response to a question about when database clean up should be completed, Joan said that June will be a good time.
Access PA Database –Joan Morris
Joan has not been notified as to when items will be added to the database.
NetCat – Joan Morris
A general meeting was held on 1/23 at which eight clean-up projects were detailed. Joan is investigating the alternatives for providing access to LCMARC. Our current subscription ends in April and it may be possible to extend it to September. However, after this time a third party vendor may be needed. The cost and hardware needs of getting our own access are prohibitive.
Sharing access is a possibility, but neither Pitt nor CMU currently have this access. Z39.50 access
would not be adequate. Joan will continue to explore options.
Circulation/Standardization – Mary Lou Failor-Hughes
Please respond to standardization questions as soon as possible. Dormont questioned the reasons for making fines for videos 50 cents. Kathy Robinson would like to see another compilation of each library’s practices.
EREC – Mike Banfield
Trial now in progress for Booksinprint.com. Link available on members’ website. New databases added are Facts.com and Predicast’s Overview of Markets and Technology.
Reports – Diane Yates
Diane encouraged everyone to continue database clean up.
Web Editors – George Everitt
PowerLibrary wants link on all libraries’ homepage for tracking purposes. He will let us know when the link is available for adding to our webpage. Please email handouts distributed at Users Group meeting to George so that he can put them on the member website.
