Description of lesser known or unknown competitions
- Make a Dessert challenge – Students make a desert and cut it into a minimum of 24 small pieces for taste testing and judging by the students that are at the FCA meeting but not in the challenge. Students then vote on their favorite dessert and winners are announced.
- Human Knot challenge – Have all 10 kids stand in a circle, facing inward. Tell everyone to reach their right arm towards the center and grab someone else's hand. Make sure no one grabs the hand of the person right next to them. Next, have everyone reach their left arm in and grab someone else's hand. Again, make sure it's not the person right next to them. Now, the fun begins! The kids need to work together to untangle the human knot without letting go of any hands. The goal is to end up in a perfect circle again. They can go over or under each other's arms, or through legs if needed! Encourage them to do whatever they want, as long as they don't break the chain in the process. For some extra fun, turn on a timer and see how long it takes them to get untangled! How quickly can they do it?
- Toilet paper Mummy Relay Race – RULES: 4-5 kids on each team. Within the team, they choose one person to be the mummy. All of the others each get a roll of toilet paper. When the signal is given, they start wrapping their mummy in toilet paper.
WINNER: You can run the game two different ways. I normally say the first team to use up all of their TP wins. Another option is to say that first team to cover their mummy entirely wins.
- Hula Hoop Relay – Divide the group into equal numbers on a team. Each team join hands, shoulder to shoulder facing the same way in a straight line. Loop a hula hoop over the first-player-in-line’s arm. Without letting go of the other player’s hands, she/he must step into and through the hoop so it rests on her/his other arm. Then she/he can slide it onto the next player’s arm and she must repeat the same maneuver. Whichever team can pass the hoop all the way around the circle first, without letting go of each other’s hands, is the winner.
- Egg Toss – All players to be paired up. The pairs stand about one meter apart, and a raw egg is tossed from one partner to the next. Those who catch the eggs without breaking them continue in the game, the others are out. After each successful catch, the players must take one step backward so that the tosses are longer and longer. The last team left with an unbroken egg wins the game.
- Mine Field – Distribute "mines" e.g., bowling pins, cones, foam noodles, etc. throughout the playing area. Participants operate in pairs. One person is blind-folded and cannot talk (optional). The other person can see and talk, but cannot enter the field or touch the person. The challenge is for each blind-folded person to walk from one side of the field to the other, avoiding the "mines", by listening to the verbal instructions of their partner. If you hit a “mine” you take off your blind fold and start over. The winner is the person that moves from one side to the other without hitting any “mines”.
- Shrinking Vessel - The team must work together to occupy a space that shrinks over time until there is no more room between the individuals in the group. They will be forced to come up with creative solutions to occupy the increasingly smaller space, such as having one team member ride on another team member’s shoulders. Use small traffic cones, a rope, or another suitable material to form a boundary. If one of your team members lands outside the boundary lines, your team is eliminated. The last team that is not eliminated is the winner.
