Fastway Couriers Sustainability Outlook Fastway Couriers Australiaand Our Regional Franchisee

Fastway Couriers sustainability outlook
Fastway Couriers Australiaand our Regional Franchisee’s understand the importance of reducing their carbon footprint. With over 25 depots, 700 vans and over 1000 staff and franchisees across the country, Fastway Couriers Australiaand our Regional Franchisee’s are taking a step by step approach to sustainability, ensuring the successful implementation of energy-efficient operations and reduction of waste consumption.
The Franchise Support Officeand our Regional Franchisee’s are leading the way in Australia, signing up to the CitySwitch program. The CitySwitch program fosters collaboration and leadership among a network of businesses across the country that have committed to environmental excellence. The program aims to improve office energy efficiency through a range of services, with the ultimate aim of achieving a 4-star or higher tenancy Energy rating under the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS).
Improvements to business operations can significantly reduce energy and waste consumption of offices. Using energy efficient lighting, enabling double sided printing, moving across to electronic based file storage, even changing a floor plan to utilise more natural light within the office can all have a great impact on energy efficiently and reduction in waste consumption, all of which are currently being considered at the Franchise Support Office. Other considerations are likely to include;

  • Reviewing computer usage
  • Reducing travel by staff through the utilisation of video conference calls
  • Reviewing recycling process

The Franchise Support Office and our Regional Franchisee’s understand that sustainability options will vary greatly between corporate office operations and those of a regional depot and a courier van. Implementing energy-efficient operations with the view to reduce waste consumption across the entire Fastway network will be a lengthy but achievable process with the following options likely to be considered as the sustainability project continues;
Depots

  • Energy efficient lighting
  • Consideration of sky lights (utilise natural light)
  • Solar panels for energy
  • Review of computer usage (particularly in large depots with big support teams and customer service)
  • Review recycling process
  • Limit printing
  • Recycled paper in depots
  • Effective installation where required

Vans

  • Driver training – better driving = better mileage
  • Window tinting to maintain cabin temperature (reduce air conditioning)
  • Partnership with company producing more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly vans
  • Vans to be regularly serviced to ensure better mileage
