SAMPLE PAPER FOR ADMISSION TEST2015

For BSc (Hons) in MBC, FBC, SE programs

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES

1. The objective of the Admission Test is to determine the aptitude of candidates for the BSc(Hons) programs of the School of IT. For those who qualify the test, the merit for admission will be determinedon the basis of their previous academic record.

2. The Admission Test will consist of questions divided into three sections relating to IQ/General Knowledge (Section I), Mathematics (Section II-A OR II-B) and English (Section III). This document gives the syllabus of the Admission Test along with sample questions.

3. The duration of the Test will be 1 hour 35 min divided as follows:
Section I (25 min), Section II-A OR II-B (35 min), Section III (35 min).

4. Candidates should note the following instructions for taking the Test:

a. Read each question carefully before answering it. Work out the solution in the space provided in the Test Booklet and record your answer after the word Ans. All answers should be written with ink-pen or ball pen. Answers written with lead pencil will not be accepted. Use the right margin of the Test Booklet for additional rough work. The method of attempting a question is shown by an example below:
(Q) What is 0.005 percent of 50. Give answer correct to three decimal places.

0.005/100 * 50 = 0.0025

Ans: 0.003

b. If you finish answering questions in a section before the allowed time, check your work on the attempted section only. Do not refer to any other section of the Test. Failure to follow this instruction will result in your disqualification.

c. There is no negative marking i.e. no mark will be deducted for a wrong answer or for not answering a question.

d. Use of calculators is allowed. Do not bring anything to the test center except the Admit Card and Pens/Ballpensand aCalculator.

e. Mobile phones must be switched off during the test.

SYLLABUS FOR ADMISSION TEST

SECTION I – IQ/GEN. KNOWLEDGE (25 min, 20 questions, 20 marks)

Test of logical reasoning, Understanding relationship between sets of words and figures, Sequences of numbers and alphabets, Puzzles and problem solving.

General Knowledge about history, geography, everyday science and current affairs.

SECTION II-A Mathematics (35 min, 20 questions, 20 marks)

(For MBC/FBC) programs)

Arithmetic and Algebra

Fractions, Decimals, Ratio and proportion, Word problems, Percentages, Problem solving using algebra.

SECTION II-B Mathematics (35 min, 20 questions, 20 marks )

(For SE programs)

Arithmetic and Algebra:
Topics as above.

Higher Maths:

Factorization, Exponents, Simultaneous equations, Quadratic equations, Inequalities Matrices and determinants, Complex numbers, Exponents and logarithms, Sequences and series, Binomial theorem, Permutations and combinations, Probability, Trigonometric functions, Identities, Applications of trigonometry.

Coordinate geometry and Calculus:

Equations of lines and planes.Differentiation and its applications.Integration and its applications.Differentiation and integration of trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions.

SECTION III - English (35 min, 20 marks)

(Sentence Completion,10 questions, 5marks)

(Reading Comprehension, 10 marks)

(Essay of 150 Words, 5 marks)

A group of 24 frogs was separated into two equal groups. Group A was placed
in an environment in which the temperature was constant at 350 F. Group B
was placed in a similar environment, except that the temperature was constant
at 650 F.

Equal amounts of food were given to each group at the start of the experiment and every 24 hours thereafter. Immediately before each daily feeding the
left-over food from the prior feeding was removed and measured. Thus, it was possible to determine the daily consumption of food by each group. Every day the frogs in each group were checked for heartbeat rate and breathing rate.
