FAMOUS SCIENTIST RESEARCH PAPER

This is an independent paper where students will research a particular scientist (living or not-living) that made some sort of contribution to our world. Whether the scientist invented something, made something better, contributed enormous ideas, or discovered something, we want to know about it!

Part 1: Graphic Organizer-----20%

First, you need to collect all the information about your scientist that you will need to write a research paper. Be sure to look at the list of questions and that you have details that address each question before you complete your graphic organizer.

Once you have all of the information on your famous scientist, you will now need to organize your thoughts through Cornel Notes. This portion of the paper is worth 20 percent.

Part 2: Rough Draft---30%

Your research paper will have 5 paragraphs. Each paragraph should be at least 6 sentences long. You will have an introduction and a conclusion and three body paragraphs. Your rough draft should be in complete sentences, using correct grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. This portion of the paper is worth 30 percent.

1st body paragraph- Describe your scientist’s life / 2nd body paragraph-Describe why your scientist is famous / 3rd body paragraph- Describe how what your scientist did changed the world forever.
Some questions you will want to answer in this paragraph:

______Years living (examples: 1901-1959; 1973 - ?)
______The country they were born in.
______Married? Children? If so, how many? Names?
______Where they did / do their work. / Some questions you will want to answer in this paragraph:

______What did they do/discover?
______A description about what your scientist was most famous for / -In this paragraph, in your own words:
______Explain how their accomplishment has benefited the world.
______Also be sure to include an inspiring quote by your scientist.

Part 3: Final (handwritten) Copy---50%

The final copy of your paper is the most important. You want this paper to be flawless. Your final copy should be on CLEAN notebook paper with a title and a proper heading. Be sure to indent when beginning a new paragraph and to use all correct spelling, punctuation, etc. Your final copy should be in black or blue ink pen and you should only write on the front side of notebook paper, NOT on the back. You may use several sheets of paper if necessary. The final copy of your research paper is worth 50 percent of your grade.

In order to meet this requirement you must complete all of the research on your assigned scientist. You should think carefully about how they benefited the world and present this to your readers so that they knowwhy your scientist is truly a FAMOUS scientist.
