Family Support Worker

Job Title

Family Support Worker (Families First Renfrewshire Project)

Location

Families First Renfrewshire Hub, Glencoats Primary School, Paisley/Home-Start Renfrewshire Offices, 70 Back Sneddon Street Paisley.

Hours of Work

14 hrs per week, subject to agreement on when these should be worked.

Salary

£18,441 per annum (equivalent to SJC 19)

pro rata 14 hours per week

Responsible for

Volunteers involved in helping to run the Family Group

Purposes of the job

  • to run a Family Group for vulnerable or excluded parents with young children in the Linwood and Ferguslie Park areas, and offer support to the Coordinator in delivering the scheme.
  • To maintain high standards of practice in supporting families within the ethos of Home-Start Renfrewshire.
  • To ensure inclusion and diversity in all aspects of the of the group’s operation and work

Main Responsibilities

  • To recruit families to the group by:

promoting the Group through appropriate networks;

identifying target numbers, areas and families;

Seeking appropriate referrals and assessing these within agreed criteria;

ensuring new families are integrated into the Group.

  • To run the weekly Family Group sessions by:

arranging premises and crèche facilities;

 planning and preparing the content of sessions, including

refreshments, activities and speakers,

arranging transport for families where necessary;

monitoring spending and ensuring this remains within budget;

.arranging cover for holidays or other planned absences.

  • . To set the standard for all activities, ensuring that:

all activities provide positive modelling for parents with regard to behaviour management, interaction and involvement in play

all venues provide a safe, warm and encouraging atmosphere for families

all families’ progress is monitored and issues are dealt with as they occur

families are advised on and supported into other appropriate activities

all staff and volunteers assisting with the Group are properly briefed and supervised

all legislative and service standards are met

In addition

  • To work co-operativelywith the Home-Start Renfrewshire Co-ordinator, Trustees, the Home-Start Administrator and partner organisations to ensure plans are discussed and issues resolved and that all family, safety, service and financial records are completed, kept up to date, monitored and reported.
  • To liaisewith referrers and other agencies to ensure awareness of the Group and to encourage referrals.
  • To contribute to the evaluation of the group and future fundraising applications, and to its longer term future and/ or exit strategy in the light of the evaluation and funding options.
  • To comply with all Home-Start Renfrewshire policies and practice requirements.
  • To attend appropriate training and development as agreed with the Co-ordinator/Project Leader
  • To contribute to Home-Start Renfrewshire activities within the scope of the post and limits of time available.
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post.
