Training Committee assembled at the Riley center in Meridian to prepare for the Fall MASFAA Training. Binders and “goody” bags were assembled for the participants on November 16th. At 3:30, the committee met to discuss actions needed for the next day and for the Fin Aid 101 workshop.

Group members were given a listing of topics that would be covered at the Fin Aid workshop. Each member was directed to choose 3 topics listing them in the order of interest from 1 to 3, 1 being the most desirable. The topic choices should be emailed to Marilyn as soon as possible.
It was decided that Nancy and Lashanda would cover the Verification module, Ann Grove would be asked to cover VA section and Mary Jane Covington the State Programs module. It was also mentioned to get the FISH/Give Em’ the Pickle videos as part of the Quality Customer Service module. (We have now reserved these-Cammie Champion/University of Mississippi.)
It was determined that each session should last around 45 minutes to one hour, which should provide the participants with a good overview of the material.
In January, the committee will have a conference call to finalize plans for Fin Aid 101. The date of this call will be emailed at a later time.
Brenda Paganelli provided t-shirt designs for the group to review and also presented some of the colors available.
A general timeline was given. Committee members are asked to be in Canton by 1:00pm Sunday, April 1. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to serve about 15 people (training committee members). This time will be used to setup for the participants who will arrive the next day at 10 to 10:30. Also, goody bags with shampoo, soap, etc. will be assembled during this time. Up to 50 participants are allowed to register.
It was discussed that there should be at least two activities a day- one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Some of the activities suggested were the name game, a skit performed by committee members, island survivor (stranded on an island, how would you survive?), and a yarn game.
It was decided that one night would be Mexican night. On this night, games such as the limbo and musical chairs would be played. Smoothies would also be served. In different chalets, participants would also be able to choose to play games, cards, or watch movies. Participants would be provided with a variety of food choices from the traditional candy to more healthy choices such as fruit and raisins. If any committee members have access to large coolers (preferably with wheels) they are asked to bring these.
On Tuesday all participants will be asked to eat the noon meal with others outside of their school.
The meeting was dismissed until a later conference date to be announced in January 2007.
