Welcome to American History I! We have a fun, exciting, fast-paced semester ahead of us! I am personally excited to explore the growth, change and development of our amazing nation with you! We have a lot to do, so let’s get started!
In this class we will examine the following:
-Pre-Columbian North America
-Exploration & Colonization of America
-American Independence & Founding Documents
-The New American Nation
-Era of Good Feelings
-Jacksonian Democracy**A constant theme for the semester
-Reform Movements will be responsible citizenship and patriotism.
-Manifest Destiny
-Causes & Events of the Civil War and Reconstruction
Class Expectations:Grading:
Be on Time (in your seat, ready to learn when the tardy bell rings)40% Tests
Be Prepared (Assignments completed and all supplies ready)20% Quizzes
Be Respectful (of classmates, teacher and you!)20% Homework & Classwork
No food/drink – you may have water 20% Projects & Journals
No headgear - No Electronics
Follow all policies in RHS and Onslow County Schools Handbooks
*Each 6-week grade and your final exam grade will be averaged together to determine your final course grade! Only final class grades are reported on transcripts.
**The county-wide minimum grade for an 6 week grading period of the school year will be a 40. There will be no minimum grade for any state or teacher made final exams.
I do not accept late work. Any and all assignments are due on the specific date assigned. If you are absent you MUST turn in your assignment(s)when you return. When you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. I will not track you down and remind you about make-up work. You have 5 days after your absence to make up missed work. Missed tests will be made-up the day you return to class! I encourage you to get a planner to keep up with due dates. I will post assignments for the entire week every Monday and will tell you the next test date on the day we begin each unit.

I know this seems like a lot of information at first, but we will move through the semester smoothly and before you know it Christmas break will be here! The most important thing to remember is that I am here for you! If you are having trouble, please let me know immediately! Problems are easier to solve if we tackle them early!
