Volunteer Opportunities:

(1)Volunteer research assistance desired for qualitative data analysis focused on adolescents’ perceptions of healthy and unhealthy dating relationships and the role socializationplays (e.g., media, religion, peers, family) in shaping these beliefs and behaviors. (1)PROJECT MANAGER
Hourly Graduate Student Position (10 - 12hrs/wk at $21/hr)

General Summary:

The Program Manager will assist with the study ‘A multi-method, multi-design study of Galli GalliSimSim.” This is a study of the Sesame Street program Galli GalliSimSim, which is broadcast in India. In different regions throughout India, three approaches will be used including:

1)A Longitudinal Panel Study of GGSS (N= 1800 participants; 900 child and parent pairs).
2)An Interview Study about GGSS (N= 900 participants; 300 children, 300 parents, and 300 educators/health professionals; 450 in the first phase and another 450 in the second phase).
3)An Experimental Study of GGSS (N=90-100 classes, approximately 2000 children).

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage the preparation and submission of IRB materials for the study.
  • Assist in the design of instruments and protocols.
  • Facilitate communication between UMD and in-country researchers at Policy Innovations.
  • Help set up data entry forms, analyze data (both quantitative and qualitative), interpret data.
  • Assist with the preparation of manuscripts, reports, fact sheets, conference presentations, and other dissemination materials.

Scope of Responsibility:
Works with minimal supervision

Decision Making:

Works independently with minimal direction from the Principal Investigator, and exercises independent judgment in dealing with routine, novel or more complex matters, consulting with the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, as needed.

Communication:

Position requires excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education:

Master's degree in Public Health, Health Science, Social Science, Management or related discipline.

Experience and Skills:

Experience and knowledge conducting research studies. Working knowledge of program management, implementation strategies, and program evaluation. Experience with both quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques and interpretation of data. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and in concert with others. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to see the big picture while at the same time paying attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to be proactive and take initiative. Exercises judgment, initiative and innovation in decision making involving implementation and coordination of the programs and evaluating the performance of project activities against overall objectives.

General Summary:

The Program Manager will be the primary coordinator for a one-year study of ‘How exposed are low-income, minority youth to secondhand smoke? An EMA pilot study in Prince George’s County, Maryland.”

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design effective recruitment strategies to obtain a sample of Prince George’s County adolescents.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of IRB materials for the EMA study. IRB approval has already been obtained for this project; however, there will be revisions to the instruments and recruitment sites.
  • Assist in the design of an ecological momentary analysis study, using innovative data collection tools.
  • Supervise or oversee data collection staff.
  • Help collect data, analyze data (both quantitative and qualitative), interpret data.
  • Prepare manuscripts, reports, fact sheets, conference presentations, and other dissemination materials.

Scope of Responsibility:
Works with minimal supervision. Is sensitive to diverse populations, especially youth. Can supervise undergraduate research assistants.

Decision Making:

Works independently with minimal direction from the Principal Investigator, and exercises independent judgment in dealing with routine, novel or more complex matters, consulting with the Principal Investigator as needed.
