FIT5195

Steve Remington. Students report that both lectures and tutorials are going well. Sindy Madrid is mentioned as an excellent tutor.

Action item: Michael Morgan to contact lecturer.Actioned.

Exams: Students in the MBIS degree have 3 exams scheduled in a four day period. Could anything be done to change this? Units involved: FIT5101, FIT5195, FIT5133.

Action item:Michael Morgan will follow this up.

Lighting in H building: many students study on level 2. In the evening, 6 or 8 o’clock, the lights are on a timer and are very noisy when they come back on.

Action item: Michael suggested a BEIMS to look at the noise. Potentially have the sensor periods extended and lighting levels checked.

FIT5129: Students would like to have guest lecturers from industry in this unit to prepare them for IE.

Action item: MM to contact lecturer. Actioned.

Michael asked general questions:

How is the student mood?

students are settling down after the last week which was very busy

there are limited opportunities to apply for summer internships. It would be good if the university/Faculty was more closely linked with some industry partners.

Michael: the culture of internships is not strong within Australia. Perhaps Chris Gonsalvez or Robin Stanley should be approached.

Facilities and equipment?

Labs: student cannot log in to the system using his tablet. Michael: ask eSolutions to check the settings. If it is a more general problem please email him.

There are very few students in lectures.

Reenrolment. Could there be an information session please regarding the units available? Le: there are not many units to choose from.

Answer: Trudi Robinson organises an email regarding the process of re-enrolment but not the unit content.

Steve: suggested looking at the handbook and if in need of further information please come and see him. It was advised that students consult their course director.

Any lecturers doing really well?

Sindy Madrid, FIT5195. Most students feel very positive about her tutorials. She returns assignments quickly.

FIT5034, FIT5129. Sam and Le are very good.

Recording of lectures is going well?

Yes.

FIT5133: Chan Cheah, tutor, shares all her materials and assignment information with all students. Sometimes her material is more than the lecture.
