Employability Champions – Terms of Reference

The Enterprise and Employability strand of the FEHW strategic plan refers to the aim that “by 2017 we will have further developed a culture of enterprise and employability that releases the talents of staff and students and enhances entrepreneurial and employability skills”.

The objectives of this strategy include to:

  • Ensure enterprise and employability will be embedded within all courses within the Faculty
  • Maximise student employability skills through assessed work experience and placements
  • Ensure that all curricula have employer and practitioner input
  • Be innovative and entrepreneurial in the delivery of programmes and professional consultancy
  • Develop a more consistent approach to gathering and using employability data

The Faculty workload tariff for 2015-16[1] provides the opportunity for the appointment of ‘Faculty Employability Champions’ to help achieve the delivery of this strategy. The intention is to appoint five Champions (one per Institute) to these roles for a term of two academic years. 50 hours per annum will be given to each role. The work of the Champions will be led by the Principal Lecturer with responsibility for Employability.

Indicative (but not exclusive) typical activities of the Champions will likely include to:

  • Attend quarterly FEHW Employability ‘POD’ meetings to facilitate close working with Careers Enterprise and The Workplace colleagues
  • Co-ordinate the way in which the University Enterprise and Employability Award[2] is embedded into relevant courses across the Faculty
  • Review and support the development of curriculum based employability initiatives
  • Support the management of Faculty careers events where appropriate

If you are interested in representing your Institute in this role please discuss your potential involvement with your line manager in the first instance. If you intend to apply for these hours during your workload discussions then please inform Richard Medcalf. Any further questions can be directed to Richard on x1218 or via .
