FEC Meeting Summary

May 6, 2014

LRC 210, 1:10 – 2:00pm

  1. Approval of April Minutes:

Gina moves. Glena seconds. Unanimous approval.

  1. Old Business:

a)Request for additional FEC funds

Karen confirms that FEC’s request is on the list of budget augmentations to be reviewed. There will be one last meeting before the end of the semester to finalize approvals. Deborah has a meeting with VP La Serna in which she will learn FEC’s base budget for next year.

b)Convocation week schedule

Deborah provided a tentative workshop schedule for the week of convocation. Final schedule should be sent out before the summer. Deborah will be given time in the New Full Time and Adjunct Faculty Orientations to discuss FEC. She will be repeating the orientation on Friday. She is working with COSAFA and the FEC budget to compensate Adjunct Faculty for attending.

Gina requests a copy of the schedule when it is finalized.

Deborah highlights a couple workshops: Linda Amaral is preparing information for full time faculty on how to be a committee member. Deborah will be discussing upgrades to Bb. Karen suggests contacting Eric Armstrong about a Basic Skills workshop.

c)FEC Summer Institute tentative schedule

Deborah displays the Bb shell she has created for the Summer Institute. Approximately 15-20 attended the last session. Gina asks about the length of the session? Deborah asks the committee for a full day so that after instruction, attendees have an opportunity to explore. Committee agrees.

Deborah will be meeting with VP La Serna to discuss compensating Adjunct Faculty. She may come back to the committee for approval to use FEC funds.

d)Budget report

Deborah reports that 2 Adjunct Faculty are finishing the Online Teaching Certification Program and 3 have turned in timesheets for workshops.

a)FEC Libguide

Deborah previews the new FEC Libguide. She comments that the page is easy to work on hopes it will be easier for Faculty to find (no login required). Glena comments that it is a great resource. Gina suggests adding tabs at the top to prevent having to scroll down. Deborah asks the committee if the FEC Libguide should be pursued further. Committee agrees.

b)End-of-year FLEX approvals announcement

Deborah will be sending out a message with the following FLEX deadlines:

Activities may be conducted until June 15th

Dead period for FLEX activity is June 15th – July 1st

All FLEX paperwork is due by June 20th

She comments that the blanket approval of activities has been successful.
