1.4 SUBMITTALS

B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

C. Shop Drawings:

D. Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.

E. Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square representing actual product, color, and patterns.

1. Provide Climate Declaration (EPD) certificate for powder coating products specified.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 year experience manufacturing similar products.

B. Applicator Qualifications: Coating manufacturer's approved certified applicator, equipped, trained and approved for application of coatings required for this Project, and is approved to provide warranty specified in this Section.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

C. Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.

1. Finish areas designated by Architect.

2. Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by Architect.

3. Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

1.6 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

A. Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver, unload and store shop-coated items so that they remain free of damage or deformation. Package and protect items during shipping and handling. Protect stored items from water; stack to facilitate drainage. Keep shop-coated items out of contact with materials that may adversely affect the coating.

B. Protect shop-coated items with protective covering until installed.

C. Handling: Handle materials to avoid damage.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.9 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate submittal and selection procedures for items to receive shop-applied coatings. Where items are indicated to match coatings selected for other items, adjust formulations as required to achieve match. Submit samples for verification indicating compliance with matching requirements.

1.10 SEQUENCING

A. Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.11 WARRANTY

A. Coating Warranty: Coating Applicator's warranty in which Applicator agrees to repair finish or replace coated items that demonstrate deterioration of shop-applied finishes within warranty period indicated.

B. AAMA 2605 Powder Coatings on Aluminum Extrusions:

1. Exposed Coating: Deterioration includes but is not limited to:

b. Peeling, checking or cracking of coating adhesion to metal.

c. Chalking in excess of a No. 8 per ASTM D 4214, when tested per Method D 659.

d. Corrosion of substrate in excess of a No. 6 on cut edges and a No. 8 on field surfaces, when measured per ASTM D 1654.

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 COATINGS

A. General:

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The Interpon Series is available in a wide product range for application in allied industries. Refer to manufacturer for powder coating products for other applications.

1. Powder coatings for architectural exterior applications primarily for windows, doors and facades on aluminum and galvanized steel substrates.

2. System:

a. Pre-treatment: Aluminum components shall receive a full multi-stage chromate conversion coating or suitable chrome-free pretreatment to clean and condition the substrate.

b. Application: Apply primer and finish coats in accordance with coating manufacturer's requirements and AAMA requirements for finish indicated.

c. Dry Film Thickness (DFT): 2.4 - 4.5 mils, with no measurements below 1.8 mils.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** US Akzo Nobel compliance. Retain paragraph below for LEED for Schools certified projects where control of VOCs for interior items that are shop-coated is a concern. Delete if not required.

3. Low-Emitting Materials: For interior coatings: Comply with testing and product requirements of California Department of Health Services' "Standard Practice for the Testing of Volatile Organic Emissions from Various Sources Using Small-Scale Environmental Chambers."

4. Climate Declaration: Type III Environmental Declarations.

a. The climate declaration (EPD) shall show the emissions of greenhouse gases, expressed as CO2 equivalents. It shall be based on the verified results from a lifecycle assessment (LCA) performed as a basis for an EPD, in accordance with ISO 14025.

b. Interpon D Series EPD: CPC - 3511 Paints and Varnishes, Approval Date - 06/04/2015 (Validity 3 years), Registration Number - S-P-00692.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Interpon D1000 is a "standard" durable powder coating range ideal for a broad range of interior and exterior applications where excellent overall performance is required. Interpon D1000 coatings are especially designed for the architectural and construction industry and have been proven over a 40 year lifespan. They are mainly used on aluminum and galvanized steel, but can be used anywhere that attractive, durable colors are required. Approved applicators not required and extended guarantees are not offered by Akzo Nobel. Delete if not required.

B. Powder Coating: Interpon D1000 as manufactured by Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc.

1. Chemistry: Polyester Primid.

2. Performances: AMMA 2603.

3. Standard durability - 12 months Florida.

4. Texture: Smooth.

They are mainly used on aluminum and galvanized steel, but can be used anywhere that attractive, durable colors are required.D2000 is formulated with advanced polyester technology and high performance pigments to meet the AAMA 2604 performance standard. Delete if not required.

D. Powder Coating: Interpon D2000 as manufactured by Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc.

1. Chemistry: Polyester TGIC free.

2. Performances: AMMA 2604.

3. Standard durability - 3 to 5 years Florida.

4. Extended Guarantees: 20 years Film Integrity and 15 years Color.

5. Finish Sheen: Matt.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Interpon D3000 is a "hyper durable" fluoropolymer powder coating engineered specifically for applications where color retention and film integrity are critical. For the toughest environments and the perfect long-lasting finish, Interpon D3000 is the answer. Liquid PVDF coatings have been the standard for many years, but our Interpon D3000 represents a greener, cleaner alternative with the same outstanding weather resistance and meets the requirements of AAMA2605, the most demanding architectural specification in the world. Fluoropolymer technology and high performance pigments to meet AAMA 2605 performance standard.

E. Powder Coating: Interpon D3000 as manufactured by Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc.

1. Chemistry: PVDF.

2. Performances: AMMA 2605.

3. Sulphur Dioxide, ISO 3231 (Kesternich): Pass - no blistering, loss of gloss, or discoloration.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and approved submittals.

3.4 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed products until completion of project.

B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
