Facebook Options for your Friend Lists, Photos and Timeline Posts

When accepting friend requests from your customers, it’s a good idea to practice some extra security and try to keep your personal life separate from your business. In today’s day you just can’t be too careful, and in my opinion it’s always better to err on the side of caution. So here are some tips on how you can keep everything organized and separate.

If you have photo albums, I would suggest you go into them and change the privacy setting right now to Friends, except acquaintances. (You will see why when you read below.) To do this, go to your personal Facebook page, click on the photos tab, then albums, on the bottom right hand corner of the album you will see a privacy setting. Either a world, a profile, etc. If you hover over the setting you will see a drop down arrow, click on that and select the privacy setting you would like. Proceed to change all of your albums to the setting that you want. IMPORTANT: If your albums are set to public….ANYONE on Facebook, whether they are your friend or not, can look at your photos, copy them, and even determine where you live, where you took the picture, etc. so please keep this in mind when choosing your privacy settings.

(You can do this for your posts on your timeline the same way)

The 3 Separate Privacy Lists for your Friends

Close Friends

These friends would be your best friends and family, you will see more of them in your news feed and get notified each time they post. However you also have the option of turning off the extra notifications by going to your settings and clicking them off the close friends activity.

Acquaintances

These friends would be people you know, but aren’t really close to. Putting friends in this category will help you easily exclude them from posts and pictures later. So choose to put people in this category if you want to keep some things private from them.

Restricted

These are people that you have added as a friend out of politeness, but you do NOT want to share anything with that is not set to public. This would be someone that you have friended so as not to offend, but whom you would treat as a stranger viewing your page.

After you have your friends set up in these “Master” lists you can create sub categories such as Mary Kay, College, etc. to further keep your friends organized.
