What a great opportunity for us to learn about management and leadership from MSU Alum and CEO of Oasis Petroleum, Mr. Tommy Nusz! We study all sorts of theories and practical ideas about Management in class – here is your opportunity to learn from a practicing expert’s first-hand experience. You can also see if anything we talk about in class seems to fit with (or contradict) his philosophies and ideas in being a successful entrepreneur, leader, manager, and CEO.

To participate in the extra credit opportunity, you must…..

  1. Arrive to the foyer of Taylor Auditorium by 1:45 PM.
  2. See Dr. Pearson in the foyer to pick up your assignment
  3. Be dressed appropriately – business casual
  4. Turn off your phone and listen to Mr. Nusz’ presentation
  5. Complete your assignment
  6. Ask Mr. Nusz a question if you have the opportunity
  7. Turn in your assignment to Dr. Pearson in the foyer of Taylor Auditorium immediately following the presentation. Dr. Pearson will remain in the foyer for 15 minutes following the conclusion of the presentation.

Biographical Sketch- Mr. Thomas B. Nusz

Thomas B. Nusz has served as our Director and Chief Executive Officer (or in similar capacities) of Oasis Petroleum LLC since our inception inMarch 2007. He also served as our President until January 1, 2014, and has 32 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. From April 2006 to February 2007, Mr. Nusz managed his personal investments, developed the business plan for Oasis Petroleum LLC and secured funding for the Company. He was previously a Vice President with Burlington Resources Inc., a formerly publicly traded oil and gas exploration and production company or, together with its predecessors, Burlington, and served as President International Division (North Africa, Northwest Europe, Latin America and China) from January 2004 to March 2006, as Vice President Acquisitions and Divestitures from October 2000 to December 2003 and as Vice President Strategic Planning and Engineering from July 1998 to September 2000 and Chief Engineer for substantially all of such period. He was instrumental in Burlington’s expansion into the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin from 1999 to 2002. From September 1985 to June 1998, Mr. Nusz held various operations and managerial positions with Burlington in several regions of the United States, including the Permian Basin, the San Juan Basin, the Black Warrior Basin, the Anadarko Basin, onshore Gulf Coast and Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Nusz was an engineer with Mobil Oil Corporation and for Superior Oil Company from June 1982 to August 1985. He is a current member of the National Petroleum Council, an advisory committee to the Secretary of Energy of the United States. Mr. Nusz holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Mississippi State University.
