Attending a Play Performance

1. Points for Rowland plays:

Each student receives extra credit for each:

  • Attendance with ticket -20 points

--This is verified by my signature or a stamp on the back of the ticket given only at the end of the performance. No exceptions are made.

  • Bringing one guest not from class to a play -20 points
  • Written Evaluation is optional. The worth of the written evaluation is based on quality. The more convincing the arguments for his/her point of view, the more points given. Maximum points given allowed is 50.

Evaluation of the play should cover:

  • What elements listed you liked & disliked
  • Give specific examples (quotes, detailed description of action, etc.)

-Acting (character development, voice, movement),

-Directing (staging, pace, concept, etc.)

-Technical aspects (lighting, costume, sound, set, etc.).

--No points will be given for plot description

2. Points for other plays:

  • Ticket AND program must be turned in to receive extra credit.
  • Written evaluation is required. The worth of the written evaluation is based on quality. Maximum points is 75.
  • No points will be given for plot description.

Cast/Crew Members of Rowland Plays:

  • In order to receive extra credit, write an evaluation of the performance from your perspective covering as many elements of the play as possible.

Attend a Comedy Sportz Match

Attend a ComedySportz performance at Rowland.

  • Each student receives 30 pointsfor attendance.
  • This is verified by my signature or a stamp on the back of the ticket given only at the end of the performance. No exceptions are made.
  • No points will be given if ticket is lost.

Reading a Play

  1. Go to the library and get the names of plays you are interested in reading or choose a play from the approved play list.
  2. Have Mrs. De Lion approve a title if it is not from the approved play list.If it is on the approved list, you may move on to step #3.
  3. Check it out from the library and read it.
  4. Write your evaluation of the play in essay form. Which of the elements of the play listed below did you like and/or dislike?
  5. a detailed description of why you feel the way you do
  6. give specific examples (quotes, detailed description of action, etc.)

  3. Plot
  4. Specific action in the play
  5. Comic elements
  6. Dramatic elements
  7. Written description,
  8. Dialogue
  9. Speeches
  10. Other

  2. Based on how effectively the student describes the positive and negative elements of the play. The more convincing the arguments, the more specific the example and explanations for his/her point of view, the more points given.
  3. Maximum points allowed is 200 for full length plays and 75 for one act plays.
  4. No points will be given for plot description.
  5. Only one play evaluation may be completed per semester.
  6. Evaluations must be typed.
  7. No points will be given for unapproved titles.
