TITLE: Allowable Expenditures by Program

SUMMARY:We will discuss the different funding sources at WSU - state, federal, sponsored programs, self-sustaining and development accounts and the types of expenditures that are permitted under each fund. We'll talk about direct and indirect (or Facilities and Administrative Costs); we'll provide tips for obtaining maximum flexibility in accounts.

TITLE: Purchasing Policies and Procedures

INSTRUCTOR(S): Patty Gropp, Buyer Supervisor, Division of Purchasing; Adele Moneymaker,

SUMMARY: Learn about the many different methods for making purchases at WSU: K-orders, purchasing cards, department requisitions, blanket purchase orders and interdepartmental requisitions. What are the advantages of a particular method? What are the limitations? Patty Gropp will discuss this as well as state laws affecting procurement, commonly used forms, creating and routing of contracts. Adele will explain purchasing services provided by WSU Extension, routing and she will provide tips for smooth and efficient processing.

TITLE: Compliance Top 10s

INSTRUCTOR(S); Norm Coffman, WSU Internal Auditor, BFO Personnel

SUMMARY: Have you taken the time to protect yourself and your staff from audit findings? Norm Coffman will stress the importance of understanding your responsibilities, and the implementation of good internal controls to prevent misuse of state funds. BFO staff will present the “top ten” audit risk areas for sponsored programs, travel, purchasing and personnel.

TITLE: Service Centers

INSTRUCTOR(S): Brad Bailey, Mary Hoffman

SUMMARY: WSU Sponsored Program Services has revised the ServiceCenter application and is in the process of updating the Business Policy Procedures Manual. Brad will discuss theses changes and will provide information about service centers. Specific topics include: service centers defined, types of service centers (recharge, auxiliary, enterprise), state and federal regulations(non-compete with private business, charging overhead), rate development (multiple rates, variable rates) service center questionnaire. Mary will discuss routing procedures and Extension policy. There will be a question an answer period following each presentation.
