Teacher Guided Subject Area Analysis

Teachers,

Thank you for your interest and willingness to review the content area results of the ACT Explore test with your students. This will provide all students with the opportunity to recognize their strengths and weaknesses as they continue to prepare for college.

ACT Explore Review Timeline:

Below we have identified the timeframe your department will have to conduct your review. At the end of your review week (on Friday) you will return the test booklets and answer documentsJill Suhajda. The counseling department will then compile the information and hand it to the next department for their week of review.

We are not asking you to use all of your time in any one day to review your content area. Instead you could choose some problems to review at the start of each class for the week – like a “Bell Ringer”.

Social Studies Department- May 10th -13th

Counselors will schedule classroom visits to start the process. The counselors will need about 20-25 minutes of a class period to review the overall test results (percentiles, interpretation of career interest information, etc) so include that time into your planning for the review.

Language Arts Department: May 16th- May 20th

The tests/booklets will be sent to you by the counseling office. You will have a one week window to review the English and Reading sections of the test. You will start by reviewing the correct and incorrect answers with the students. Have each student fill in an ACT Explore Item Analysis Worksheet. Return the Answer Documents and the Test Booklets to Jill on the last day of your review window. Keep the Worksheet for your classroom use.

General Directions:

-Each student should record their data on the Test Results Item Analysis handout for each review area. COLLECT these at end of your content area review week.

-Keep this worksheet for your use in class to assist in future planning for this year.

-At the end of your content area review week you will have the students place their Test Booklets and Answer Documents in the manila folders that were supplied to you by the counseling department. These are used to assist in routing the document to the correct teacher in the next curricular review area.

-We will keep the student created t-charts for use in the fall. You will return them to the counseling office at the end of the year and we will distribute them to the appropriate grade level teacher in September.

STEP ONE: As you review the MATH section questions and answers with your teacher, circle whether your answer was correct or incorrect. This will allow you to focus on the strong items as well as those that may need to be readdressed. NOTE- Look closely at the number of the test item; they are not in order. They are grouped by the skill being measured.
