MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts – Multimedia and Performing is to engage students in a rigorous education that empowers students to reach their highest potential and inspires a love of learning.

Create Champions of Academic Excellence – Proficient or above in the areas of English Literature, History, Math, Science, Foreign Language, and Performing Arts/Technology.

Create Champions of Self-Expression – Creative thinkers able to evaluate, organize, produce solutions in a complex technological and artistic world with practical and theoretical foundations.

COURSE OVERVIEW

All of our students have their own special strengths and it is at CHAMPS where they find their capability. The mission of my classroom is to support students in their core courses and academic skills. The class requires participation, positive behavior, regular attendance and, sustainable work habits. The goal of this class is to prepare the students for college success and beyond.

As members of Champs, students will be expected to above all demonstrate respect and patience. Students are expected to come to all classes on time, prepared with the appropriate materials and assignments and ready to participate in a positive, productive learning environment. Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated and will accrue appropriate consequences upon my discretion.

  2. Job and Interview skills
  3. Note taking & Textbook outlines.
  4. Academic language.
  5. Life Skills (DMV, Financial budgeting, etc.)
  6. Computer skills, Reading & Math intervention,
  7. Public speaking & Social Skills.
  8. Advocating for assistance (IEP Goals).
  9. Current Events (CNN News, News ELA, etc.)

GRADING

Each student must maintain responsibility for consistently checking his or her own grade. Students should be aware of their standing in the class at all times. Weekly grade checks will be done as needed. Students can stay up to date on their current progress in the class through “Q” of by communication with the instructor via e-mail or in person.

Students are assessed daily on the Vocational Skills, Attendance, Behavior, Organizational skills, Productivity, and Assignments completed.

  • Participation (Class Dojo Points) 30%
  • In-class Assignments 40%
  • Grade Check & Planner 10%
  • Midterm  10%
  • Final  10%

A= 100-90%; B= 89-80%; C= 79-70%; D= 69-60%; F= 59% and below

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS AND CLASSROOM RULES

  1. All school rules and regulations apply.
  2. Be respectful to yourself, peers, staff and environment.
  3. Students must come prepared to class.
  4. Study skills is an academic class and you will receive a grade for the class (excessive tardy and absences will impact your overall grade).
  5. Students may not leave class without a pass and permission from the instructor.
  6. There is no eating in class.
  7. Cell Phone use is only allowed for academic purposes as permitted by staff.
