EXPECTATIONS FOR CONFIRMATION PREPARATION

2015 - 2016

1.  Diocesan Policy for Confirmation:

a.  Be a registered parishioner of the parish

b.  Have attended 3 years of religious studies either in a Catholic school or Parish High School religion program

2.  Selection of Confirmation Sponsor

a.  Sponsor must have been Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation)

b.  Sponsor will provide letter of recommendation from their church parish where registered.

c.  Sponsor must be 16 years of age or older.

d.  Sponsor is responsible for attending Formation / Rite of Welcome, Formation / Rite of Enrollment, Confirmation practice and Confirmation Mass

e.  Sponsor is responsible to be an active part of the Candidates Confirmation journey to teach, guide and support.

3.  Parent and Candidate Attendance at Parent / Candidate Confirmation Meeting

4.  Candidates are required to attend all scheduled Confirmation sessions and masses

a.  2 Large Group Sessions with their Sponsors (Formation / Rite of Welcome – Formation / Rite of Enrollment

b.  All Small Group Sessions

c.  Confirmation Practice and Rite of Confirmation with Sponsor

5.  Attend Confirmation Retreat

a.  Confirmation Retreat at Angola State Prison (Candidates will be assigned dates)

6.  Candidates will be required to write a letter to the Pastor explaining why they want to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation (this will be done in one of the Small Group sessions).

7.  Candidates will be required to schedule and complete interview with the Pastor following completion of the letter to the Pastor.

8.  Bishop Muench requests every Candidate select a Saint’s name. The Candidate will be “called by this Saint’s name at Confirmation. Candidates will present their Saint’s name during a Small Group Session. Their presentation will include a brief written summary of their Saint and the reason for selecting.

9.  Rite of Confirmation Mass DRESS CODE per Bishop’s request:

Ladies

a.  NO strapless, spaghetti straps, low cut, off shoulder or one shoulder dresses or blouses

b.  Dress or Skirt should be appropriate / modest length for church (remember you will bow to the altar)

c.  Shoes: Please NO heels over 3” (fall precaution)

d.  Please arrange hair so that it is off forehead (for anointing)

Gentlemen

a.  Dress shirt and tie

b.  Dress slacks

c.  NO jeans

d.  Please arrange hair so it is off forehead (for anointing)

10.  Signed Acknowledgement stating you have received the Expectations for Confirmation Preparation for 2015 - 2016.
