Exhibitor Information

History - The Atlanta Koi Club (AKC) proudly announces the 14th occurrence of the Atlanta Koi Show proudly titled - Atlanta Koi & Goldfish Show - 2008. As evidenced by the name, we have continued the very successful goldfish competition segment of the show. Long fins will be judged according to the AKCA guidelines in a separate competition from nishikigoi.

During the past 13 years, we have relied on your support to make this a great weekend full of all things pertaining to koi and goldfish. We hope this year’s show will be our biggest and most successful show ever. We’re making every reasonable effort to have all people that have contributed to this success return to help us celebrate these wonderful 13 years. Your presence, support, and continued contribution have been the #1 reason for our success.

We will keep you informed via our website, www.atlantakoiclub.org, as the show date of September approaches on our schedule of events. Judge biographical information is also available on the Koi Show homepage. Please visit and review the brief biographies. Our judges for this year are:

Koi/Long fins

Ø  Ray Jordan

Ø  Bryan Bayman

Goldfish

Ø  Peter Ponzio

The show is held at Coastal Pond Supply, and we will have activities to attract koi and goldfish keepers near and far. In addition to the koi and goldfish show, we will offer an indoor exhibition and vendor space.

We sincerely hope we can count you among our vendors and koi exhibitors to make this show as successful as you have in the past.

This exhibitor information packet should answer all of your questions, but if you need more information contact David Pugh at

Rules - This is a hobbyist-only show, all fish entered must be owned by and accompanied by the registered entrant.

Ø  Entries are open to all members and non-members of Atlanta Koi Club. Koi or Goldfish dealers or their employees, even part time or informal fish dealers, are not allowed to show fish.

Ø  Past Grand Champions—once a fish has won Grand Champion at an Atlanta Koi Club (AKC) Show, it is no longer eligible to participate in subsequent AKC shows. This includes koi, long fins and goldfish.

Ø  The AKC will take a color digital photo of each fish for benching and judging purposes.

Ø  Entry fees

o  For koi and long fins the fee will be $50 for each 7’ show tank. Volunteers and AKC members are entitled to one 50% discount per household. Pre-registration is suggested to guarantee you a tank. Use the point calculator to determine how many tanks you will require.

o  For goldfish the fee is $5.00 per fish. Goldfish will be displayed in 10 gal aquariums with a limited number of 20 gal aquariums reserved for "large &/or active fish." When registering indicate if you will need a 20 gal tank. The judging rules published by the AGA (American Goldfish Association) will be used as the basis for judging.

Ø  Fish can be checked in on Friday, September 19, 2008 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Saturday morning check-in is only by permission of the show chairman. Early check-in may be available on Thursday. Contact the show chairperson if you need this accommodation.

Ø  The owner or a representative of the owner of the fish must be present at the tank during benching.

Ø  The benching team will check all entries for injuries. If a fish is found to be ill or injured, the fish will not be judged. The owner may elect to remove the fish from the tank or leave it until the end of the show.

Ø  Benching standards have been established to place a koi into the judging class where it will be the most competitive against other varieties within that judging class. Varying from these benchmarks will "typically" put the koi at a disadvantage. Of course, the competition on the day may cause some variances, but that again is the exception. The benching team may discuss class assignment with the owner, but the judges will make the final determination of which class a fish is assigned to.

o  All Gin Rin must be shown in respective A & B classes

¨  Gin Rin A - Kohaku, Sanke, Showa

¨  Gin Rin B - All other Gin Rin

o  Doitsu is defined as all Doitsu that are not metallic (Hakari), Shusui (Asagi/Shusui), nor Kumonryu (Kawarigoi)

o  Bekkos must be in the Bekko class

o  Tanchos include only Kohaku, Sanke, Showa

o  Butterfly or Long fins will be shown it their respective A, B and C classes.

o  All metallics (scaled or Doitsu) are placed into the Hikari classes

¨  Hakari Muji (single colored, including Matsuba)

¨  Hakari Moyo (patterned)

¨  Hakari Utsuri (metallic Utsuri and metallic Showa)

Ø  Community Tanks for Vendor Purchases -The Atlanta Koi Club will provide show tanks for dealers who sell fish to be entered into the show. Entrants not showing other fish in the show must register their own fish. There is a $10 charge per individual. AKC will provide the digital photo. Fish must be in the community tanks by 9 A.M. Saturday. No fish are to be placed in a tank until registration is completed. The actual owner of the fish must be present at the time of benching.

Ø  The judges shall not view the tanks until the show chairman has removed the list of owners and indicates that the tanks are ready to be judged.

Ø  No one other than the judges, club president, show chairman, and show committee shall be in the display area while the fish are being judged. Observers and entrants are to refrain from communications with the judges during judging.

Ø  All entries will be left on exhibit for the duration of the show unless permission is obtained from the show chairman. If you feel you will need to remove your fish early please make arrangements as far in advance as possible so that we can have water and oxygen available for you. You should plan to remove your fish starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday. All fish should be removed by 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Ø  The Atlanta Koi Club will take all-necessary and reasonable precautions to
safeguard entered fish but the owner will assume all risk and responsibilities of said fish.

Ø  The decisions of the show chairman and judges will be final.

Ineligible Fish - Fish fitting any of the following criteria are NOT eligible for this show and should NOT be transported to the show site.

Ø  Fish that have visible signs of injury or illness will not be allowed to compete in the show and should NOT be transported to the show site. The decision of the Benching Team will be final.

Ø  Koi that have been exposed in any way to Koi Herpes Virus (KHV): Examples include, but are not limited to,: surviving a KHV infection, sharing the same water system with a koi with KHV, sharing the same water system with a KHV survivor, receiving a vaccination of a live virus KHV serum. AKC will enforce this rule to the best of our ability, but we must ultimately rely on the honesty and integrity of the exhibitor.

Hospitality - AKC will showcase its famous southern hospitality with a Vendor Appreciation Night on Friday night from 7P.M. to 10 P.M. A great opportunity to meet the judges, mingle with other Koi hobbyists, vendors, club members and exhibitors.

We encourage the vendors to be open for business to give attendees an early chance to shop.

Awards Banquet - The banquet will be held at 7p.m. on Saturday night near the host hotel and seating is limited. A cash bar will precede the banquet. Tickets are $35 per person. Advance reservations are encouraged. Prior to the show, banquet reservations are available only through , with your advance vendor registration, or through eligible trophy sponsorship. If reservations are available at the show they can be purchased at the AKC Store.
