Reported Using Data from the 2010–11 School Year

Published During 2011–12

Every school in California is required by state law to publish a School Accountability Report Card (SARC), by February 1 of each year. The SARC contains information about the condition and performance of each California public school.

·  For more information about SARC requirements, see the California Department of Education (CDE) SARC Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/sa/.

I. Data and Access

Ed-Data Partnership Web Site

Ed-Data is a partnership of the CDE, EdSource, and the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) that provides extensive financial, demographic, and performance information about California’s public kindergarten through grade twelve school districts and schools.

DataQuest

DataQuest is an online data tool located on the CDE DataQuest Web page at http://dq.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/ that contains additional information about this school and comparisons of the school to the district, the county, and the state. Specifically, DataQuest is a dynamic system that provides reports for accountability (e.g., state Academic Performance Index [API], federal Adequate Yearly Progress [AYP]), test data, enrollment, high school graduates, dropouts, course enrollments, staffing, and data regarding English learners.

Internet Access

Internet access is available at public libraries and other locations that are publicly accessible (e.g., the California State Library). Access to the Internet at libraries and public locations is generally provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Other use restrictions may include the hours of operation, the length of time that a workstation may be used (depending on availability), the types of software programs available on a workstation, and the ability to print documents.

School Description and Mission Statement (School Year 2010–11)
Oakland Tech has a long history of offering innovative, rigorous and supportive programs and continues to work on improving its program. Our vision for Oakland Tech:
·  All members of the Tech community will work cooperatively, and communicate respectfully, in a peaceful, safe and clean environment
·  All Tech students will strive to achieve high expectations, meet solid academic standards, and have equal access to an enriching curriculum that will enable them to reach their highest potential.
·  All Tech students will graduate with transferable skills in academic, vocational, and social development for college, quality jobs or career education.
To support this vision, Tech offers small learning communities at the 9th grade level, Academy programs (grades 10-12) in Health, Engineering, Computer Technology, and Green Technology, an integrated Biotech internship program, a strong performing arts program, a Paideia interdisciplinary humanities program, and an Advanced Placement/Honors program (grades 10-12).
Opportunities for Parental Involvement (School Year 2010–11)
All students new to Tech attend an orientation in the fall, and parents of all 9th graders are required to attend pre-registration with their children. The PTSA provides a forum for parents, guardians, teachers, students, staff and community members to share ideas and concerns for the betterment of Oakland Tech. Meetings are held the 2nd Monday of the month in the Library at 7 p.m. There is a Parent Patrol that provides additional adult presence in the halls and grounds before and after school, and sometimes at lunchtime. The school provides many services to parents through its on-site Family Resource Center, which is staffed with parent volunteers. A special parent task force, the African American Student Action Planners, provides valuable input and planning that targets the achievement of African American students.
In addition, the CSSC (Collaborative School Site Council) meets once a month, on the 1st Monday of the month in the school library from 6:00-8:00. For 2009-10 and 2010-11, the CSSC has accepted the duties of the ELAC and will coordinate the interface of school programs for our English Language Learners with the parents and communities of those students.
