The Projacs Executive Development Program

A Master’s Program in Practical Leadership Techniques

July 29 –August3, 2007 – London, England

Course Description

BACKGROUND

In today’s highly turbulent and uncertain environment, executives who have broad-ranging competencies beyond their specializations are more likely to progress in their careers. In addition to providing participantswith cutting-edge topics from various disciplines, this executive management leadership program has been designed to provide practical experience in using the skills and techniques that are the hallmark of effective leadership.

Many executives are well aware of the concepts associated with effective leadership, but, putting those concepts to work in their daily management activities can be a challenge. The pressures of the workplace make it difficult to hone their new-found skills and they often find themselves returning to old habits, with the same questionable results.

Practical Leadership Techniques is an advanced workshop designed to give the participants the practice they need to become skilled in the proven techniques of effective leadership. This course is a hands-on approach to effective leadership where participants work through management case studies and scenarios to discover for themselves the power of leadership in a wide variety of management situations; including:

  • Team Creation (finding and hiring the right people)
  • Team Building & Motivation (developing a team that will get the right things done)
  • Conflict Resolution and Problem Solving (learning the power of curiosity and the skill of cue sensitivity)
  • Innovation Strategies (creating environments where every team member is an innovator)
  • Negotiation Strategies (learning the skill of negotiating for the long term)

A Master’s Program in Practical Leadership Techniques is based on the concepts (knowledge, skills, and techniques) covered in Project Management Leadership (Creative & Innovative Leadership). This course is presented by Projacs’ as a cornerstone of ourExecutive Development Program, the last two weeks of August in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. While it is not necessary to take Project Management Leadership prior to taking Practical Leadership Techniques, those who have will find great value in attending this advanced workshop.

NEED AND BENEFIT

A Master’s Program in Practical Leadership Techniques is the practical step to answering the question: What accounts for the varying degrees of effectiveness among managers? Part of the reason is a failure to recognize alternative strategies for becoming an effective leader, like resolving conflict and problem solving, effective delegation and communications, candor and openness, and, most important, trust and respect. The knowledge of the concepts of leadership isn’t enough; what is critical is their effective application. Practice in applying these techniques is critical to their becoming a powerful tool in the hands of management.

Another reason lies in the lack of insight into how behaviors impact relationships and bottom-line results. This can be rectifiedby seeing the results of applying effective leadership looks in the day-to-day managerial role. These experiences and the resulting outcomes can then be compared with the effectiveness of typical management styles to help managers think about themselves and "how" they work with and through others to achieve results.

This course accomplishes this through case studies, role plays, and examples, where participants learn and practice the characteristics and power of effective leadership. The areas covered in this Master’s Program are:

  • Team and individual development and motivation
  • Critiquing and communications
  • Conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Innovation
  • Negotiation
