DISCUSSION ITEMS

Ed Stores, Executive Director, reported on ongoing negotiations with Time Warner for

television rights to certain sports. There were questions regarding live versus tape delayed broadcasts and monetary issues. He also reintroduced the possibility of a Section V Conflict of Interest policy modeled after the State policy. He will provide a draft of such a policy in January. He explained the new SIRS BEDS policy being used by SED. Final numbers will not be available until mid-January.

Jackie Meyer, Section V Treasurer, reported that the net worth of Section V as of November 1, 2011 was $265,936.83. There was much discussion on a Finance Committee recommendation to institute a dues threshold policy. The threshold would increase by $50,000 annually up to a maximum of $500,000. At present the threshold is $200,000. The Athletic Council passed this measure. The Section will look at the way dues are determined in the near future.

Dennis O’Brien, Section V negotiations Chair, reported that he had met with a representative of the Officials group. Negotiations for a multi-year agreement continue.

Joe Sposato, reported that the committee working on a new classification policy has a draft to be shared by various groups. Leagues are asked to discuss this draft and it will be discussed further in January.

Jim Zumbo renewed discussions on a Section V Tournament Philosophy policy. Groups were set up to discuss key questions and each group reported out at the end of those discussions. He indicated that information received will be the subject of a special Executive Committee meeting to be held on December 14, 2011.

Season start dates for 2012-2013 were established. They will be; fall – August 13, 2012; winter – November 5, 2012; spring – March 4, 2013
