Membership Committee Action Plan

2014 – 2015

Committee Members: (Insert names of Committee Members ideally a minimum of 5 names with the Post 1st Vice Commander serving as Chair.)

Membership Committee: The Post 1st Vice Commander should serve as the Chairperson of this Committee. The Committee will meet quarterly, with specific sub-committee assignments for Retention, Renewals and Recruiting.

  1. Write the Action Plan and then follow it…it is your roadmap to success
  2. Post Commander to make membership growth a priority discussion at each business meeting, stressing the importance of membership and that it is everyone’s responsibility
  3. 1st Vice Commander to keep the post informed of progress by newsletters, emails and written reports at monthly business meetings
  4. Train the Post members on how to gain memberships. What are the 4 most important reasons for joining? The new ALEI online course is ideal for this
  5. Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation
  6. National Security
  7. Promote Americanism
  8. Children & Youth

Focused Elements - state specifically what you need to do, how you are going to do it, who is going to do it and when will it be accomplished.

  1. Retention: (Insert names of Primary Sub-Committee Members)
  2. “Close the back door” by helping members become as involved as they want to be. This is our #1 objective.
  3. Personal phone calls and personal visits to current and new members to determine how and where they can become active
  4. Align a post member with similar interests (background or age) as a “buddy” or “sponsor” to follow up and assure new or transferred members are involved and integrated
  5. Encourage renewing online with a credit card at:
  6. Work both current members roster and expired member list

  2. Set goals and interim target dates for accomplishment
  3. 25% of goal by July 31, 2014

  7. Major retailers on weekends (Grocery Stores, Shopping Mall, Home Improvement Stores, Gun Stores…etc.)
  8. Sign-up events at Police, Sherriff and Fire Departments
  9. Neighbor Night Out events at HOA’s
  10. Senior Centers
  11. Promote with the Post Honor/Color Guards
  12. Work the Department of Texas Headquarters 345 list…letters, emails and follow up phone calls
  13. Promote “Everyone Recruits One” and “Just Ask” slogans
  14. Use website effectively…check that it is updated on a regular basis
  15. Social Media…a proven way to attract younger Legionnaires

Legion Programs: Work with the Post Commander to ensure the Post is involved in Legion programs - Boys State, Oratorical, Boy Scouts, JROTC and School Awards are vital for meeting membership goals.

Public Relations: Keep the Post Public Relations Committee informed

  1. Ensure the Community knows what you are doing and why
  2. Ensure your Post members know what you are doing and why

Reward: Meet with the Post Commander and help institute presentation of earned awards during Post meetings to build excitement and success

  3. Recognize all members annually for their continuous years of membership
  4. Develop competitions with other Post in your District
  5. Use citations and certificates found on the Certificate Maker CD
