Our “Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare” Policy sets out how JuniperTraining aims to support all our students, whatever their background or circumstances to make positive progress and achieve their learning outcomes. We recognise, refer and adhere to guidance taken from the Common Inspection Framework August 2015 and the Further Education and Skills Handbook July 2017.
2.0Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare of our students
Personal development, behaviour and welfare arefundamental parts of our training programmes. Our programmeenables all students to:
- Commit to a learning programme that helps them develop self-confidence, self-awareness and take pride in their own personal achievement
- Develop relevant, employability skills so that they are well prepared to make informed choices about the next stages of their education, employment, self-employment or training
- Attend regularly and promptly, demonstrate good behaviour and conduct in order to manage their own feelings and relate well to others

To ensure the personal development, behaviour and welfare of our students we provide training programmes that offer passionate and committed teaching with opportunities for open-ended investigation, creativity, experimentation, and teamwork. Our programmes offer all students the opportunity to take part in well-planned workexperience placements with real employers, encountering challenging and unfamiliar situations.Throughout the student journey, students learn to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic wellbeing.
3.0Juniper Student Journey
Juniper offers all students a personalised learning programme that gives them access to inspirational competent staff and quality resources, that will assist and support them to make informed choices about their training needs, personal development, wellbeing, career development and progression opportunities.
The Juniper Student Journey ensures that students are on the right programme and that they have the right level of support in order to for them to succeed. The student journey consists of:
- Careers Education, Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) and Initial Assessment – all students are introduced to the Programme Pathwaystake part in a 2 day assessment process to ensure that Juniper Training is the right type of training provision for them.
- Induction – students officially start their programme and learn everything they need to know about what to expect over the weeks ahead.
- Engagement – students start working on developing employability skills, maths and English, and their engagement tutor continues to assess their progress to identify their programme type. During this period the student’s personal development, behaviour and welfare is assessed to establish individual support needs and what help they will need to overcome any personal barriers to progression.
- Student Development Plan – the programme pathway is established and agreed with the student. Personal and social development sessions are built into all students’ programmes and are delivered throughout the development period.
- Maths & English – all students work towards improving their levels of maths and English.
- Work Experience and Employability Skills – all students develop a work experience portfolio that will become their “Passport to Employment”. All students take part in significant work experience placements with real employers that will enable them to develop the right skills to confidently progress onto further education, employment with training or an apprenticeship.
- Review and Development – all students receive on-going CEIAG and support from a dedicated Progression Co-ordinator who will review their progress from start to finish, to ensure they are on track and have the right level of support to achieve their programme goals.
- Student Feedback – student feedback is gathered on a regular basis through learner forums and questionnaires. This is to enable Juniper to develop the service in response to students’ needs.
- Progression – we aim to progress 100% of our students onto sustainable further education, employment with training or an apprenticeship.
NOTE: For more information, please see “Juniper Student Journey” on the Intranet.
Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare is delivered as part of all programme pathways, through set lessons or embedded within other areas of learning, e.g. WorkSkills, maths or English. Each month there are companywide projects called “Hot Topics” which, focus on specific areas of Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare. All centres should take part in these and prizes are awarded to recognise students/centres who produce good standards of work.
4.0Students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)
Juniper employs a Student Support Specialist who is qualified and trained to work with students with specific learning needs. This ensures that these students get the right support and guidance to aide their personaldevelopment, develop their employability skills and gain the necessary qualifications to positively progress onto further education, employment or an apprenticeship.
5.0Code of Conduct – 3 Way Agreement
Juniper believes that delivering a high quality training programme enables students of all ages to make informed choices about their programme and career options, thereby helping to maximise their commitment to learning, develop self-confidence, self-awareness and take pride in their own personal achievement.
In order to do this a level of commitment is required from all parties. With this in mind, Juniper has developed a Code of Conduct – 3 way agreement that is signed by all parties at the beginning of the programme and clearly identifies:
- Student responsibilities
- Juniper’s responsibilities
- Parent/Guardian responsibilities
This ensures that the students understand what they can expect from Juniper, what is expected from them and how their parents or carers can participate in supporting the student throughout their learning journey.
NOTE: For more information, please see “Code of Conduct – 3 way agreement” on the Intranet.
