Every“ONE” Can Make a Difference

This month students at GMS will be learning and focusing on the idea that Any“ONE” and Every“ONE” Can Make a Difference. A variety of activities will take place with this focus:

School-wide Activities –

Assembly: There will be an assembly on Thursday, February 4 that will focus on our theme that Every“ONE” Can Make a Difference. The Student Council will present an assembly that will include the book and play, “One”, as well as present art and writing from students about a person who has made a difference in their lives.

Picture / Essay Contest: Students in grades 1-4 are invited to submit an entry in our Every“ONE” Can Make a Difference contest. The entry should be an essay or picture about a person(s) who has made a difference in the life of the student or of how the student has made a difference in the life of another person. Selected pictures and essays will be shared during our whole-school assembly. All students who submit an essay or picture will entered into a random drawing. There will be one winner per grade level. That winner will be allowed to choose a friend and have lunch at a special table in the cafeteria with Mr. Thompson and Ms. Faro and waited on by Mrs. Robinson. All essays and pictures are due by Friday, January 29.This is an optional activity for all students in grades 1 – 4 and will not be completed at school.

School Community Chain: During classroom lessons, all students will be decorating a paper doll of themselves. These dolls will connected into one whole-school paper chain of all students and staff as a representation of how we are all connected as “ONE” school community.

Classroom Activities –

  • Mrs. Robinson will be presenting a lesson in every classroom focusing on how each person can make a difference. The book, One, by Katheryn Otoshi will be read. Discussions will focus on people from around the world who took a stand that changed others, individuals who might have made a difference to students personally and how students can make a difference to help others.

We look forward to these exciting events as our GMS community focuses on others who have made a difference and how each of us can make a difference!
